Metroid requires that you pass a vibe check. I love the 2D Metroids tho. I was specifically talking about Prime. Combat sucks in first-person (especially a controller, I guess 4 can finally use the Switch mouse) and you hardly get to see Samus' cool design while playing and both I consider important elements of the game. An fps Metroid is an interesting take but I am shocked that there are enough fans to make FIVE of these motherfuckers. I played the first one which I did not care for at all. And I got Hunters as a gift which had really fun multiplayer but shitty main campaign.

Prime is more puzzle than action focused. The combat is just there to keep the player engaged while they get from point A to point B. I do agree though they can improve it much more in prime 4.

Fair enough anon, hot take I know but I don’t really love Prime, it plays it too safe. I always felt Echoes does a much better job of capturing the inherent weirdness and atmosphere of the series. Way more interesting combat too. Unfortunately we have Other M to thank for being so astronomically dogshit that we will never get a third-person action Metroid that’s actually good.

I always take it to be that the doors can be opened with keycards or whatever and that Samus is just overriding the lock with her weapons. So the regular people living or working in the places the games are set in just used keycards to open he doors not weapons.

Playing the Prime remaster I couldn't help but feel these Samus games are not art at all. The whole solo exploration thing is just... mid...

Samus games really need to grow up.

Running around alone on some unknown planet looking for upgrades just to explore some more and fighting bosses ain't it. Who the heck is the target audience for that?

I hope for 4 they drop the whole lonely exploring of an alien planet thing and finally give us the mature game Samus deserves with an expansive open world, fully fleshed out and diverse characters and cutscenes that tug at the heart strings and really make you think.

Im really bummed over it, desu. I don’t find it to be any fun and it’s surprisingly obtuse at times about where you’re supposed to go next for a hack based on the most linear game in the franchise. I get that’s part of the whole point of the hack but it feels like he went too far. It took me 30 minutes to realize I have to find a way through the Yakuza room and now because of that experience I can’t tell if after AQA I’m really supposed to force myself through the Ice X in NOC or if I just have to keep looking around.

Again, this is all part of the franchise’s appeal, but something about the execution of tropes feels more amateur compared to AM2R

I beat it a couple hours ago, the early and very late game suck massive balls. The end segment and overall ending are just genuinely terrible. The mid game where it opens up and you have enough upgrades to not eat shit constantly really shows off the potential of the hack but it’s still full of cheap tricks and needlessly obtuse level design that feels less like the curated progression of a real Metroid and more like a shitpost. Kind of feels bad to shit on it because it took the guy a decade to make and there’s a lot to love about the quality of the assets and custom mechanics, and the bosses are super cool. It feels very unpolished.

It was Retro Studios from the onset, and Prime4 was originally given to bamco....who in all their intellect gave it to there singapore team which fucked it up royally.
