I think people had very low expectations, and they are clearly TRYING with an obviously low budget. The assets are very generic and very obviously store bought, so it has this very generic look to it. Remove the hud from some foggy night scenes, and it could look like a scene from Silent Hill 2 Remake.

They did get Peter Weller back, and they obviously cared and wanted to make something like the films. A lot of effort and soul matter.

I kind of love how busted the auto-9 is. Its kind of a pea shooter early on, but once you start getting chip sets it becomes fucking broken, and NG+ is just you holding down the trigger and pointing in the vague direction of someone, and just blasting them to fucking bits.

What makes the game great is that it doesn't overextend itself. It doesn't try to do everything, it's not trying to be a full RPG or a GTA clone or anything like that. But everything it tries to do, it does very well. It avoids the trap that too many AA games fall into.
