My problem with roguelites is that the way RNG works, you just have a 10% chance of getting a broken combination that's a free win. That's boring. But whenever I bring this up, people act aghast. To them that's the whole reason to play, to become heckin OP and stomp all over the game, rather than getting good and winning with skill.

It's ok to not have complete control of everything. Using with what you got is part of the thrill and excitement.

But people act like it's a "deck builder" that takes skill. I'd say the game is 20% skill tops, there's some basic shit you need to pay attention to, but other than that it's just luck.

It's not fun getting dead run after dead run. Or just feeling the slog of a deck that you know isn't going to make it slowly fall behind.

you probably feel this way because you are not very skilled at this game. which is fine, the game can still be fun that way.
good players can win the large majority of gold stake runs.

Why can't they just give me a Hard mode that has some semblance of balance? Slay the Spire introduce the whole Ascension thing where it's 20 levels of incremental difficulty, yet the builds you have a 10% chance of getting that carry you to the end are just as good on A20 as they are on A1. Feels so pointless

Maybe I'm just trying to force my decks too hard. I had a really good flush deck that one shot the final bind on the green difficulty, and I've been trying to repeat that.

The thing is, if I get a "all x cards are debuffed" bind early on I feel like I should start building my deck around that card type after because I know I can't get fucked over by a bind that counters what my deck is built around.

>>717313497
yeah it's not too great of an idea to be focused on just one type of hand for all your runs. you need to adjust to the circumstances and also recognize when it makes sense to pivot to something else mid run. That's where half the fun comes from.
Flush builds are generally good because it's easier to do deck building for it than for most other hands, but just because you already defeated a certain boss blind doesn't mean it is worth going all in on that type of hand if you don't have anything else going for it.

the RNG is not front-loaded though. you have to use skill to survive until your combo comes online. A lot of roguelikes do suffer from being too easy or they cheese the difficulty curve with meta-progression fuckery, but whatever. The fun part isn't really being OP and stomping, it's the process of discovering how to become OP. If there are broken combos and you figure them out, that's ok just means its time to move on to a different game

i dont think balatro is really very rng for the most part, other than shit like black deck gold stake
right now im suffering though
>only 2 jokers left for completionist++
>need to both sacrifice potential score to maximize how many jokers i come across, and avoid filling myself with too many essential eternals
>even if i win its very likely i havent seen the jokers at all (theyre uncommon)

It's been obvious for thousands of years that luck is the meta, so you really have no excuse for dumping it at character creation. Maybe if you didn't dump INT, too, you would have realized that.

Losing in Balatro isn't even funny. You just didn't make a number big enough and then the game ends. Winning isn't fun either. It's just a very uninteractive game.

Some people are retarded and unable to mitigate risk and manipulate odds so instead of understanding the strategies they could've employed to do better they just call it RNG bullshit. There are obviously times when RNG can screw you but even a half decent start should give you more than enough room to find a winning run

The only penalty that I find too strong is the one that takes away a discard. Almost all my wins in the upper difficulty levels are pairs or high card. Other than that, I think the difficulty is pretty reasonable, and I can get some streaks every now and then.
Anonymous No.717320502
>>717320203
That's another reason why I like flush decks, I don't have to discard if 90% of my deck is one color.
Anonymous No.717320742
>>717320203
One of the few tidbits we have about the update is that Blue Stake is getting reworked to not take away a Discard anymore, mainly to help bigger hands more viable to play.
