appealed to a wider audience
it worked for one game but burned a lot of their goodwill with existing fans

Ryza was popular but not immediately. Everything else there is a sequel and people didn't want to jump into a story partway through. Yumia was a new starting point so all the people that had gotten interested by Ryza over the years jumped in all at once. They also immediately jumped off again, which is why they're breaking out the DX releases to get them one more time.

Who are "existing fans"? Arland fans who have been butthurt for 10 years, or Ryza fans?
