Animal Antics, especially without barrels, is a bit of an assfuck but that's about it

Alternatively with RetroArch you can enable Hardcore Mode which disables save states and slowdown entirely. Forces you to play games as intended.
I know it sounds retarded, but the Retro Achievements for DKC2 are incredible too. They added so much replay value and extra challenge + flair to an already amazing game.

These days you dont. Everyone emulates it and uses save states. I do it too. These niggers are lying. DK games are notorious for being bullshit hard, so you need to replay levels over and over again in order to past a simple bullshit point or two that they have. Curious though, the gameboy ports are beatable without save states.

Not him but DKC1/2 were among the few console games I legitimately 100%'d without emulation. They just aren't that hard. For DKC1, the hardest part is the stretch of three ice jumping levels in a row before you reach a save point, but it's only the third one that is a little trial and error, if you load up on lives ahead of time it's no biggie. For DKC2 I'll admit to using the "stay in the start room" exploit that all the other kids used for the bee fight, other than that, the only hard level was the slime tower, and that's only because I didn't know you could charge up the snake jump. They're easy games for 6 year olds.

I have beaten it. I'd say right before the Bee Queen, DK2's difficulty is tough but fair with only a few unfair moments inbetween. After you beat Bee Queen, the game gets increasingly bullshit. K rool boss fight is bullshit long and unfair and I still hate it. Having to restart a level to find a bonus stage to get only ONE(1) chance of beating it to get the coin, is just a very retarded dev decision even for SNES standards.
I have beaten it when I was like 13, but it took me 8 months worth of trial and error. I had the time back then. Also, I didn't have that many games to play, so it was DK2 all the way. In our current climate, a bullshit hard game like DK2 has no chance of becoming a mainstream success, because people have less time to spend on a game for many reasons

If you can deal with those I don't think MMX has anything too fast for you, bosses are just 2-3 layered phases that alternate, levels are very forgiving if you take them slowly, and getting all upgrades really changes how you play. For SMW I didn't say capeless in my original post, is there even a way to 100% the game without flying? But I actually learned how to play without the cape by sucking enough to lose it.

I mean, things are different nowadays. True, social media are more addictive, but the big difference is that you have an infinite amount of choice when it comes to videogames. Statistically speaking, when people play an impossible game, they will eventually drop it for something else.
When it comes to age, kids would rather spend time on tik tok rather than play hard games, zoomers usually return to their e-slop, and 30+ people will play something else because they have irl stuff to do, and their patience is limited. So I guess emulation is God's gift in the end of the day, because it allows you to (re)visit old games and enjoy them at your own pace and time

I did it without them a few months ago. It's mainly just trial and error, memorizing stages, timing things correctly, abusing Dixie's ability to fly and giving yourself 200+ lives by farming a level.

Dixie honestly breaks the game, I remember being stuck on that one level where you need to fly slowly down a hive full of bees and if you touch one you're dead only to watch someone else do the level and see them completely disregard Squawks and just do it with Dixie. Made the whole fucking thing a cakewalk.

Obviously there is skill involved in it, you need to play close to perfect for most of the level with few mistakes allowed and have to do that for the rest of the game but it's very doable if you have the patience.

I might try MMX again. I know what you meant about SMW, I was just using capeless as shorthand for "special stages without a cape or blue Yoshi". The P-Balloon special stage was hard for me, but the Koopa Paratroopas are positioned in a way that blue Yoshi can fly through the stage if you maneuver carefully. There are just enough pipes and single blocks to land on to grab a new shell and refresh the swallow timer. As for the whole game, I don't think you can reach Soda Lake without cape or Yoshi, you'd need at least one to get the Cheese Bridge secret exit. Maybe if you can do the speedrunner shell jump but no way I could do that.

>it's in the top hardest SNES games
LMAO

Early SNES games like Contra 3, Gradius 3, Super R Type, Super GnG are a hundred times harder than DKC, without going into stuff like Hagane, Dracula X and the Super Star Wars games.
Even the special cup in fucking Super Mario Kart is infinity harder.

You have beat it enough times with save states until it becomes a muscle memory

If you used save states to practice at all you will never beat the game. Even if you play it again without save states, all your practice and "improvement" is cheated.

Have patience and resolve to work up to the point where you died again. Even if you're pretty consistent up to that point and know you'd only be saving time with a save state. I often stream for my friends so I have incentive to not look like a bitch in front of the guys. Take a break if it's been going on for a while. You'll play better after a couple minutes. Take mental notes on what got you and when it shows up

By playing it enough that you become better at playing the game. If I could beat it when I was like 8 you can beat it now faggot.

Both of those games aren't easy though. Wouldn't say they're super difficult mind you, but they're not Mario-tier. World 7 in TF got me a few times.
