I tried playing DOS2 after completing BG3 twice and it feels like such a step back I couldn't get though it. Simple things like being able to jump, push and move objects, and Divinity has a really gay action system. BG3 has its issues but on the whole its one of the better RPGs out there, I tried Pathfinder as well and couldn't get on with it.

Haven't played it; DOS2 is better an I've yet to finish it. DOS2 has a better combat system with more environmental effects, a better cozier artstyle and less politics.

When they talk about massive success of this game remember that actual sales are actively hidden.
Shills will tell you Larian is a le private company as an excuse but they are 30%owned by tencent so they have to report sales and the game was made in collab with WOTC, which are publically traded and owned by Hasbro, and on boy do they have to report on sales.
But we hear nothing that is actually officially verifiable by tax services. Only "leaks", "estimates", and an unofficial estimative claim of a CEO who has a history of not actually knowing how much his games sold.

I tried playing Pathfinder WotR after BG3 and holy shit did it make me appreciate how BG3 spaces out it's fights. I got burned out from that game and I only got to the 3rd chapter.
Sucks, because I really did like the character creation and some of the characters, especially wanted to sexo the angry spider girl but I couldn't push myself to keep playing it.

The only step back for me if I tried to play DOS 2 is no classes. I actually like classes.

The only problem with Pathfinder is the difficulty, and the huge amount of text.
When I play Baldur's Gate 3 (even on the hardest difficulty), I never feel like the game is unfair. Even if I finish the fight with one person alive, I'm still happy with what happened.
For example, I'm fighting the spider boss in BG3 and Gale is the only one left. In BG3, you still have a chance of winning that fight, because I can Thunder Wave the spider and it falls down, taking massive damage. You can't do anything like that in Pathfinder, and you just get rekt.

It does. If you play something like Rogue Trader, that system is a lot better. Cooldowns mean if a fight goes a long time, your casters aren't suddenly worthless. For people playing on hard mode, you actually have to use scrolls in Act 3, or you run out of spells.

I love RT's combat. I should really go and do a new playthrough with the Arbites DLC. Last time I tried unfair grim darkness and lost in the fight with Aurora. But not to him though, I managed to kill everyone except that one sniper and he had like 3 HP left when he finally killed my fish. That killed my willpower for that run as it was so close

I played wotr what must be years ago by now and just started a new run last week

I dropped the game like 3 times during the maze and told myself I got better things to do than play this shit but I couldn't let the tutorial beat me, especially since I already had completed the entire game on core (+higher difficulty once you start outscaling content) previously

I swear cam and lann on level 1 are more complicated than a fully build lvl 12 character in bg3. They got all these abilities which I can't be bothered to read. The combat is just a lot more shit than bg3. It's such a mess to control. Yeah, you can turn on turn based combat but with all the filler fights, it's clearly meant to be played as real time. The funniest part is that you can just kite certain encounters, like the water elemental in the maze. Literally running circles until your ranged characters roll enough 20s to kill it because to hit a damn thing you need to roll 20s.

I was worried that if we freed orpheus he'd immediately start genociding the second you take out the brain but a friend told me that's not true.

Almost as of the quality declines sharp.
When I first entered act 2, I quickly realized the fun's over and larian ruined the near perfect act 1 with their gay shenanigans. Act 1 took them like 5 years to make.

I can tell you actually played Wrath of the Righteous because I said it was too hard just earlier. If you have to play like that to beat a boss, there's a problem. In Baldur's Gate 3, there's gear you get early on that quite literally halves the difficulty of the game. /v/ knows about Zevlor's gloves but those are super cheap because your whole party is taking half damage from physical. That's the major difference between Larian and Owlcat.

We need more of both, though bg3's gummi worms powers feel less interesting than the beta Daisy grooming dnd really benefits from extra Powers like mythic, illithid powers or to a lesser extent the bg protag spells, spirit eater soul shenanigans.

Why? Do you do the Act 3 superbosses? I feel like they let you hit max level before the end of the game so you can do Act 3 in any order you want. Ansur and Raphael are actually hard.

Pretty much my sentiments exactly. The quests are entertaining enough, if not a little too "Millennial" at times.

The actual gameplay, however, is fun as fuck which is why I think so many people pump out new runs without finishing them - there are a lot of interesting classes, combos, and builds worth experimenting with. The combat is several leagues above the writing.

I keep hoping for someone to mod in like a Bloody palace mode or something. create a quick build, and level up in between stages against different enemy groups and see how far you get

Pathfinder Kingmaker had a mode like that; It was called Beneath the Stolen Lands. Pillars of Eternity had dungeon crawling too, but BG3 didn't.

The crusade stuff in WoTR was wank as well. Absolute time black hole, not.even fun to play the battles and if you elect to skip it you miss out on stuff. I ended up getting a mod that auto wins your battles and it was still tedious.

My main issue is it discourages you from using some of the more whacky niche spells since they share a limited resource with your important combat spells. As a result casters end up taking many of the same spells most play throughs

Absolutely.

Magic Missile is a must have, and Thunder Wave is a lifesaver.

Scorching Ray
>Level 3
Haste is better than anything else at this level. Fireball is fine if you're already hasted.
4, 5, 6 is just like different damage spells.
There's no reason to do anything else because you have limited casts.

No, because the damage types on 4-6 are useful. Something like Ice Storm is Cold/Bludgeoning. What does that mean? It's useful if the enemy is immune to Fire. Something else is you can Create Water with Shadowheart to do double Cold damage. So yeah, you don't always want to use Fireball.

I mean, dnd is rng dependant. Two crits can change everything. Certainly I die here and there. I like funny and gimped builds. My second playthrough was a african looking half orc with heavy vitiligo. Street banger monk, shoes and torch only. Solo'ing the campaign on normal basically. Legendary is de minimum difficulty, if you are familiar with crpg or the dnd rule set.

Depends on the caster and what you're casting. Swords Bard + Arcane Acuity + bonus action means you can upcast a tal rashas hideous laughter or command: prone with a 95% chance to hit and put entire groups enemies out of action for a turn or set yourself up to let your martial characters wail on prone enemies. A wizard upcasting a fireball to lvl 6 is kind of shit when chain lightning exists and gets double damage against wet enemies.

Thats why you need to pick up gear that gives you free spells. Coincidentally, the same applies to D&D 5e and DMs who get stingy with gear will see the same habits in their players.

To make everything flow, you gotta be generous with gear, short rests/songs of rest, etc. You should also be long resting pretty often, and the game rewards you for doing so by doling out one special interaction after another in the camp

On the other hand a lot of level 4/5 spells are shit and level 3 are actually decent even if upcasting them doesn't do much/anything so often I'd run out of level 3 spell slots and end up upcasting them even if upcasting them doesn't do anything, just cause the spell itself is worth it.
