>database with at least 40 good entries that is also popular
There are at least 2000 good SCPs.
>>717332423Even some of the early entries are shit.
>>717332380 (OP)same reason 99% of the games that came out this year were remakes, or sequels, or name cash-ins.
people see 173 and they fork out a crisp $20 to an indie early access game.
they see 1471 and the furries fork out $900 to have their OC get vored by it in the lore.

>>717332380 (OP)Murder monster SCPs are more conducive to being video game enemies. But SCP 5K uses some less know ones, like the seed of destruction, surgeon crabs, and SCP-7528. The last one feels kind of bad to play against, though, since it functions sort of like 096 that could appear on any screen semi-randomly.
https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-8814
>Why?
because your audience will be people who only read 5 articles before closing that clusterfuck of a wiki
>>717332380 (OP)The older ones are more popular since they've been around longer
and it's easier to include scary monster SCPs into something like a game
and not the tape that is a recording of a basketball game where everyone is stuck in a time loop on replay or the sweater that feels makes you feel like you're getting hugs when you wear it
Since we are talking about SCP games, I would like to recommend Go Home Annie. The story, gameplay, and visuals are a bit janky, but overall, I still think it's one of the better SCP games. Also, it's quite short and on GOG, so you might want to consider not buying it.

>>717337618Iโd be remiss to ignore some of the excellent and iconic Series III ones like Laugh Is Fun, Too Spooky, etc., as well as the handful of great later ones other anon mentioned like 5000, but almost everything after 2000 is completely negligible, and you still need to use the Wayback Machine and dig past the obnoxious Wikidot errors to make sure youโre reading them as intended.
>>717337618There's some good 2000's and a few good 3000's but beyond that it becomes agonising. I think the highest one I really like is scp-2747 but it got waifu-ed pretty hard.
What is /v/โs opinion on 3215 and its connecting tales/articles since weโre discussing when the site died?
>>717332380 (OP)Because it has been a long, LONG time since anyone has actually cared about the horror/mystery roots of the whole thing. It's all about the popular characters and marketing content to people who recognize them.
It always turns into a soap opera between the few popular ones. SCP is all about meme scientists and the famous monsters, Warhammer is all primarch shit, Digimon is Adventure member berries, Pokemon is charizard/kantowank, Marvel tries to regurgitate 10 new Spider-People every year, and so on...

>>717338380General increase in issues such as being overly long, poor ideas, cringe, boring, no editing, unable to maintain tone, wokeness, author circlejerk, things that should have been a multi-chapter story somewhere else.
>>717337618There's plenty of good ones, same way there's plenty of shit ones before that
The site is 16 years old or something and just like every long running piece of fiction, everyone has their hot take on when it died or if it's still good
and this is a collaborative piece of fiction so it's going to be worse because some amateur writers are going to put in "this is a dog that gets mad and eats peoples hearts, but she's a gay dog with pink fur" or "this is a spooky house with a too long exploration log that goes nowhere-here's a link to 3 foundation tales"

>>717332380 (OP)What killed the hype?
>>717339016In hindsight I am glad I stayed far away from all this way back and never gave a single shit about SCP.
there's so little quality control and so many autists who don't want to 'get it' that it's better to just stick to the classics
>>717339016I do agree that the censorship and wokeness have been a serious detriment (the assorted fag flags over the logo are seriously pissing me off.), but I've been reading a lot of SCP lately, with most of what I read being more recent, and I really don't hate it. SCP is still very much enjoyable, even if I don't like everything.
>>717339674yeah, i read a pretty good collection of tales and whatnot about some low-risk branch that based out of a lighthouse or whatever and it was actually pretty decent
I liked the one with the invaders in the hut that infiltrated the outside world. The Moon Man and Ocean Bro was cool
>>717339273it is true that the 8th episode was just an excuse to post their fetish?
Itโs heartbreaking to see modern SCP. Itโs been subverted to shit. Glad I got out back in 2013.
>>717339016>old, good articles getting rewritten and censored in lockstep with the new articles and creative processWhat?
No, no, no, no, this isn't what I intended at all, jesus fuck no.
I helped found the Rewrite Team back in the day, and our guiding principle was supposed to be keeping the original spirit of lower-rated articles intact while improving grammar and tone (i.e. fixing up "conversational" elements to make them more clinical, etc.). It was never meant to be used as a way to steamroll old articles with new ideologies. Oh my god I am so fucking sorry, I didn't mean for it to end up like this.
>>717344401it's really a damn tragedy

>>717344925the living room isn't even interesting

>>717332380 (OP)cause it got coopted by the unimaginative uncreative plebs
>>717344756What if the fuckup just changes his ways once he gets his power fantasy
Like yeah sure 99% of them are probably just going to turn homelander and give them a reason to execute them but there would be 1% that actually gets their shit together because of the powers and became a nice MTF right?
Now you got an agent that's like functional but still fucking racist and worse off his racism fuels his power.
Would you reintergrate him go actual squads or make up some shit to put him down?
>>717344080Genuinely you should kill yourself out of shame. A western seppuku
>>717344080it's not your fault, it was going to happen eventually no matter what so don't fret over it
>>7173376182599 is decent
>>717345609The article we're talking about specifically says the Foundation tolerates racism in effective employees. If a skinhead is given the SCP and decides to become more professional, they'll probably stop giving him the metaphorical rope to hang himself with. Maybe they'll even transfer him to a different MTF
https://youtu.be/3kbZ-ipBjbk
Someone is making a Prison Architect inspired game about running your own containment facility.
>>717346291What if his sudden change is because of his powers, like how uncle Ben said 'with great power comes great responsibility', would the guy still get to keep the retarded 4chan /pol/ hammer or do they just strip his power and make him back to his original self
Or would they just give him other powers like augments
>>717332423There might be 2000 good SCPs, problem is that they're surrounded by million shit entries and that's the main problem.
Sure, not every SCP was good when the concept was new but you didn't have to shift through much garbage to find a diamond, now you have to crawl through liters of liquid dogshit to find said diamond.
And that's the general problem of the modern internet, where low quality, easy to make shit gets spammed everywhere drowning out anything good to the point where nobody even finds it worth it to look for anything good.
>>717346291Not anymore, we rewrote that. You can sacrifice 80,000 thousand Russian tax evaders at the bottom of the sea, but the second you do a heckin' racism you're out of the foundation!
>>717346925it always vaguely bothered me how so many people seem to have trouble suspending their own sense of modern morality in fictional settings
you see this same thing happen to basically every fantasy setting on the map where they have to be exactly as inclusive as modern society or it's a Big Problem that needs a signature campaign to fix and it's just tiresome

ultimately i'm still of the idea that if you want to make your own scp game you should just make up your own scps and lore, like control and lobcorp did. let's be honest, you like the idea of the secret organization that contains weird shit, the old iconic monsters aren't that special and you can probably come up with something equally cool. only exception is if you really want to make a game on a specific big scp or story continuity, i guess.

Because they focus on all the SCPs that are big scary monsters what kill you which is easy to adapt but not very interesting. The best SCPs arenโt alive or humanoid, and the best human SCPs have more going on than being a scary monster. Weโre never going to see 590 in a game.
