The only 8bitdo controller I can say I have liked is their Saturn clone. Literally the best controller I have ever owned.
I've had their Pro2 and it was extremely laggy to the point of brokeness within 6 months, and their arcade stick which is quite shitty but still probably the best wireless stick on the market, unless you want to start modding one with adapters. And before people tell me I fell for the wireless meme, I use it on my bingbingwahoo for casual couch play, so I don't really care about small amounts of input lag versus the comfort of a wireless controller used from a nice sofa. I have more legit set-up on my PC.

I always wondered what games/genres would benefit from a neogeo controller? All arcade genres (STGs, fighters etc) are just straight up better using a levered arcade stick, and if you want to use a pad, one with a dpad. Unless you're using it to play actual neogeo games, what's the point? Even then, most of the games you'd want to play on that system are arcade ports anyway so you'd just then default to using a stick?

Same shit happens with literally every single brand, including official microsoft/sony ones. It's all made in China with zero QC even when your controller is supposed to be a premium sold for over $100.
The same goes for expensive gaming mice, also all made in chinesium even the most expensive ones, again with zero QA and basically you have a high chance at double clicking or the mousewheel fucking up within a year.

Not going to watch the whole thing, but judging from the first few comments, he doesn't like the dpad?
I don't really mind that the dpad isn't incredible. Any games where the dpad matters for movement, I'm using my Saturn pad anyway. When I am using this controller, zi'm just navigating menus with the dpad anyway so who really gives a fuck? Unless there is a controller with the same build quality and out-of-the-box customisation that ALSO has an incredible dpad (that I can switch to be in-line with the face buttons when a game would benefit from it), I will stick with this.

I thought the whole stick drift thing was a meme considering it never happened to me in my whole life and my dualshock2/3 hack even my DC pads are still working great to this day.
Then I buy a Dualsense (for my pc) and babysit the fuck out of it (made a case specifically for it, I never throw or drop it, etc) and then it starts drifting in less than a year. Insane, it's not just a little bit, I have to add 50% of deadzone in order to clear it.

They're doing this shit on purpose I swear. For what it's worth I've been using this Vader 4 Pro for about 9 months, it's hall effects and I have no stick issues so far, and it's a great controller, with great gyro now thanks to Steam's official support, although I caught the right bumper sticking once but it never happened again..

Anonymous No.717346934
>>717333828
>drift
Removes sensor wear from the drift equation. Can still develop "drift" from a loose centering spring.
>linearity
Varies by stick sensor and the controller's firmware. It's claimed by some that ALPS has the best linear response, but hall effect and TMR controllers with good sensor design and no smoothing algorithms provide one as well.
>voltage
Hall effect uses more than other stick types. This only matters meaningfully for soldering a new stick into first party controllers, where hall effect may not function properly without an added daughterboard but TMR and ALPS will just work.
>resolution
Separate from stick module completely, don't know where the TMR resolution meme comes from.
>design flaws
Some stick models don't have the sensors shielded adequately from interference. Hall effect triggers may slightly pull up on hall effect/TMR sticks when pushed in, theoretically Switch 2's magnets would pull TMR joycon sticks toward the console.
Hall effect at low battery often loses about half its stick range.

I bought one out of curiosity, having never used one before, and honestly I can't see the point. I thought it'd be quite immediate like a dpad and with the micro switches it'd be more responsive like an arcade stick, but the throw on it is huge so it feels kind of like trying to use an analogue stick in a 2D game. The travel loss is dimensional? like your thumb travels less to the max stick offset. But the stick still work "as intended", it registers all values -32768:32767

it's like there appeared a huge dead zone in the center, the stick wobbles a lot without registering anything, so the "useful travel" of your thumb is smaller than on the less weared right stick, but both sticks "work fine"
the point is that i'm kinda ok with this 8bitdo controller, it could've been be better, it could've been be worse, next time i'll probably try another brand like gamesir or other, as for 8bitdo, i would recommend it if you are tight on a budget and found a good deal on it

I've been debating between this, Gulikit Elves 2, or Shanwan Q38 for similar purposes.
IINE's the cheapest and most portable, recessed sticks so they don't snag things as easily in a bag or pocket is great.
Q38's same form factor as an 8Bitdo SN30, sticks protrude more than I'd like but I prefer circle mech d-pads.
Elves 2's a bit big, but should still fit in a cargo shorts pocket at least, and comes with a frosted acrylic carrying case matching the controller's shape, so the sticks will be protected in transit and it won't take up as much space as a typical controller bag.
I might personally be interested in third party joycons as an alternative, but I don't know shit about them and expect most of them to suck in some fashion.

I found the Shanwan Q38 before too but I dismissed it because the quality of the plastic seems off to me. I wasn't aware of the Gulikit Elves 2. I'll do some research on it.
For third party joy cons, I've got the Nyxi Hyperion Pro joy cons. They're alright although you need to turn the rumble off and it's not as ergonomic for my hands as I thought they'd be.

Once all controllers had two sticks, the argument for asymmetric sticks vanished yet it carriers on at this point, I'm convinced, purely to spite Sony for getting it right in the first place.

I've had my 8bitdo Ultimate 2.4G controller (cost 25 bucks for it and the wireless dock when I got it) since February of 2024. It is still functioning flawlessly and I use it everyday on PC. No drift (hall effect sticks), no sticking on buttons, no false inputs, no wobbling, no creak. Can't say the same for numerous Xbox/PS first party controllers which just don't last. Razer is similar trash to first party (made the mistake once with the Wolverine, never again).
Personally I don't see why you'd buy anything BUT 8bitdo if you're gaming on PC or Switch (got an Ultimate 2 for gyro on switch 2, TMR sticks and on-board profiles for button remapping for the win).

It has a hard wire you dont have to worry about the port at the top waring from going in and out. The USB starts to ware? that's fine get a new break away if need be (rare)

Face buttons are Goated, Shoulders are fine, (better than any DS other than 2) D-pad leaves something to be desired but is reliable (sturdy, not accurate)

easy to get parts for aswell. Just the best, most reliable, most readily avalible, easily repairable controller you can get.

I agree with Six-Axis and Wii mote. Wii classic controller and CCPro also suck. Wii had no good controllers. Playstation's 6A controller is just terrible all round. One of the worst controllers ever. Easily sony's worst. Awful sticks, awful triggers, Super cheap and flimsy. DS3 a little bit better than Six-axis, But only because of how much more sturdy it is. batteries in them are dog shit and these days most 6A\DS3's have hard time keeping charge.

They're definitely snug and don't wobble around. I think they probably have more padding inside so they can make contact with the capacitive touch sensor on the steam deck's sticks. It's amazon, and the packaging can easily be put back together so it looks like new for a refund, so I'd recommend buying a set just to try it out.

You kinda have to use the Dualsense wired on PC for the haptic feedback to work. And it lets you overclock your controller. Most do 1khz, DS can do 8khz. It's a lot better than Bluetooth.

I played through DS1 and 3 with a drifting Nintendo Pro Controller. It’s not that big of a deal.

Not him, but that 8bitdo PRO uses SNES style shoulder buttons and it cant survive soulslike combat of constant R1 mashing, Elden Ring destroyed mine, great controller otherwise, shame.
I still used to play NES games.

They're all made in China with the cheapest materials possible.

I got an Xbox elite controller, within 3 months, probably only 100-150 hours used the rubber is already coming off of it, the A button is double pressing and one of the bumpers is getting wobbly.

they want to squeeze consumers by getting them to buy 3 new controllers atleast, per console cycle. If you want a controller with removable sticks you have to pay 200+ dollars for one, and each replacement stick you buy from them will be 20+ dollars each. It's literally planned mandatory console DLC - this is why you should laugh at consolefags for making price arguments vs PC.

I actually really like the 8shitdo ultimate 2C
It's only 30 burgerbux but is probably the best budget controller I've used, it has the form factor of the switch pro but a much better analog and clicky dpad. The buttons and bumpers are a little chunkier but not awful feeling by any means.

Probably the biggest pro otherwise is very very little input delay compared to bluetooth with the dongle and a pretty great battery life. I say this as someone who fucking hated OP's 8bitdo controller, now that was actual garbage that felt awful to hold and apparently had tons of issues when it came to both analog and dpad.

Compared to the Elves 2 Pro which it's also nearly half the price of, no HD rumble or macros but the Bluetooth chipset is significantly better.

Guangzhou Chicken Run is the parent company.
They were thinking about changing the logo to something else earlier this year, but I'm guessing staying the course won the vote.
