Yeah, it's good solo. It's easier solo than in co-op I'd say, or at least I find it so. Playing with friends is always like herding cats and we inevitably all end up individually weaker than I do when I play solo, so we always get our teeth kicked in by some boss while I beat the game several times solo.

Desu, the things I remember the most about Etrian Odyssey are the random events, that might or might not help my party, interacting with the sink in Barony is pretty much the same, it might heal you or it might spawn some bullshit.


Combat wise they are different yes, Etrian focuses on status effects and has the Monster Hunter aspect like of hunting pieces of a monster and crafting items from said pieces until you craft your gear, Barony you get the gear from the get go, no need to craft or grind pieces

It wants to be like those roguelikes but I don't think it succeeds in that very well. For a real time game its combat is ass and the roguelike elements don't work very well over the course of a run. Maybe if it had a bunch of different 5 floor dungeons you could tackle but it really doesn't work in the current format in my experience.

You find better gear and magic and you have skills that improve the more you use them. If you have summons or other minions, they level up and get stronger too, plus if you have followers you can order them around, tell them what gear to use and so on.

There is basically no meta progression, outside of the DLC unlocks iirc.

Monster races(DLC) cannot play as the other monster race classes until you beat the game with that race.

Skeleton's racial class is conjurer, so you can't play Vampire Conjurer without beating the game as a skelly first.

I am glad you can at least play the monster classes as human. Human Conjurer has to be one of the most broken combos since you sidestep the skelly MP problem.
