What is people's beef with this particular game?

pearl clutchers hate it because it normalizes poker to people, prepping kids for casinos.

hardcore gamers hate it because it's ultra-casual, shallow, number-go-up, with very little depth and decisionmaking.

StS is a solid game but the fact that it's the pinnacle of deckbuilder roguelikes is a fucking tragedy for the genre. the extremely-inexperienced dev who made Balatro openly admits that Balatro's design was fairly aimless, and guess what? anyone with any modicum of experience with any similar genre knows that the game isn't particularly interesting for more than a few hours.
maybe audiences just go retarded and clap their fat hands when they see "roguelike-anything". one of the worst puzzle games I've ever played debuted this year with the masses calling it a masterpiece just because it had horribly-incorporated roguelike mechanics. you know the one.

I can never figure out how to properly get into a Mime/Baron playstyle. Replacing your deck with a whole bunch of modified Kings feels like it'll take too much time.
