I tried this game recently and it's complete garbage. How the fuck did this get such positive reception? To this day some people call it an essential PS3 classic and the best launch title. This janky piece of shit released a full year after F.E.A.R. on a brand new, supposedly powerful console. It must have been really grim back in the day for anyone who "liked" it back then

I liked it. The campaign was throwaway mediocrity, nothing special. But the deathmatch was great. In the early PS3 days only rich white kids could afford one so the community was cool.

To your other point, yes it was grim for the PS3 in 2006 and 2007. You didn’t have many options, just Ninja Gaiden, Motorstorm, Ridge Racer, the worst Uncharted, and CoD4. So Resistance got more attention than it otherwise would have.

By the time this game out gaming media had psy-op'd gamers into believing Halo and Half-Life were good titles, massively lowering the standards of the genre.
Anonymous No.717339716
Because of console wars obviously. PS fanboys were calling every exclusive great even though they were trash

Most early next-gen games have inflated scores and age poorly.
3 and one of the handheld games are the ones people like.

So Resistance 2 is on part with the first one? I can give the series another chance I guess, so I should just play the third one?

>>717339775
I genuinely can't see how the campaign could be fun, the gameplay belongs in a bargain bin PS2 shooter

i liked the unique weapons, the guns were fun to use, the enemies were cool, and the setting was cool. it's not the wildest FPS ever, but i enjoyed it and played it a few dozen times over the years with and without a friend for coop.

It's a good game for what it is. Of course, at this point is old an obsolete, and it doesn't really have any cool mechanics like FEAR or TimeShift to hold up these days.

My thoughts as well. I got this and Uncharted with my 80gig PS3, and I got a free copy of Pain thanks to a PS mag. I always liked the Resistance games for what they were - competent shooters, but nothing to rival Halo. For me, MGS4 was the first must-have exclusive.

Pretty much every early ps3 title was jank, this was no exception but was still fun. 2nd one definitely had better budget and better realization of the consoles capabilities.

It's a much better attempt at a Halo clone than Killzone 1 for PS2 was. The multiplayer and weapons were fun too you just had to be there.

Definitely spent a bit of its time in multi, and it was notable for hosting up to 40 players in a match when most games were doing 16 at most on PS3/360.
And then MAG came around and fucking spoiled me with its basic mode being 64 players at the minimum

I just wish other games ripped off the Auger rifle. Not seen anything like it in a game since. The multiplayer was fun to play solely because the weapon loadout was unlike most games, and required a different approach.

the gunplay felt nice from what i remembered. it has cool stuff like a radiation cannon and a nanite spray thing? i can't recall full details, but it was like the needler. either way the gameplay was alright. it was a cool sci-fi shooter. could have been faster paced though.

Meanwhile I got to see an area in FFXI on my PS2 have 700 players in one map, even though it was a slideshow and could barely show more than 30 of them at a given time.

I think it was more a general milestone to break past 32 players, since that was the usual cap of most PS2/PS3 titles to that point.

It was cool tech how they synchronized it all though, since you were free to run between the sections of the map seamlessly. Domination mode was four sets of 32v32 matches simultaneously. The 128 player modes were actual proper matches though.

A shame that was in the era of DLC map packs, since the best fucking mode, Interdiction, no one played since it cost $10. 3-teams of 32, and three outposts on the map to capture and hold for points over time. It was fucking chaos.

Because 7th gen was complete dogshit and gaming became popular with literal dudebros who were buying endless amounts of dogshit console FPS Halo β€œkillers” at the time and Snoys specifically were trying to hype up their own console shooter to justify their PS3 purchase

I've never said Resistance was the best launch title, that does to another game.

Resistance 1 might be the weakest of the trilogy but all 3 games taken together are very great. Resistance 3 is for sure near the top of the FPS genre for me.
