Not gonna rank them, but having played OG RE4 again recently, I don't think it holds up at all. At least not as a survival horror or even as a RE game.
And no, it's not the tank controls, I have no issue with that. There just isn't enough survival horror elements. The 'puzzles' are weak, it's linear as hell and combat feels mid. It's just kill rooms after kill rooms after kill rooms.
It deserves props being a pioneer tps, but for what it was trying to do I think Evil Within did a way better job.

Dead Space 3 wasn't a "bad" game, but it was a bit underwhelming, if not disappointing. Especially in the story, they never should have removed EarthGov as a secondary antagonist and should have included them in the story, it could have added a different type of enemies in the game and made the betrayal scene make more sense (the character turning you over to their superiors instead of religious fanatics). Co-op was a good idea, but you could clearly tell some levels and cutscenes were not designed with it in mind. I remember seeing complaints about the plot twist for somewhat ruining the horror mystery with the Markers, but ignoring that it still lined up with everything the previous games laid out, it actually opened up more questions and mysteries regarding the markers. Which was implied in one of the cut audio logs in 2 and in the Martyr novel (before they decided to retconn it).

Overall, I also had fun with the game, I liked the story about the Sovereign colonies (which only really existed in the Catalyst novel), I enjoyed the flotilla and the arctic world. The micro transactions is solely on the fault of EA, but some of the narrative ideas I feel can be placed on Viceral. Unfortunate that he series ended the way it did with the Awakening DLC, but maybe this reboot can rectify the story (assuming Motive will commit to continuing the series).

I want to address this part first because in the lore of Dead Space, it makes perfect sense.
This is from someone who has not only played 1,2,and 3. But also experienced no known survivors website, Extraction, The Mobile game, Both films, the graphic novels and books.
The fact they did remove EarthGov makes complete sense because they were never secondary to begin with. That's the ENTIRE POINT of the message.

The markers were not designed for the purpose humans think it's for. Humans also say lines such as "make us whole" and "praise be to altman"
If you ever learned about Altman, you'd know how the real events happened to him (Who was AGAINST the whole bullshit and it's actually a sick joke but the followers don't know that because that shit was spread BY THE GOVERNMENT a long time ago).
I wanted to state this first because it's important to know the horror isn't even the alien tech, it's the message of how dangerous a group of believers can be when no one questions or just repeats what they're told.

For as great as RE4 is, I simply think DS2 trumps it. DS2 is the best Dead Space. More environments and enemies and more shit in general. More memorable fights and moments. I also much prefer the space atmosphere to the RE4 atmosphere, which is very very good. RE4make has no real atmosphere or charm, its really just updated controls and disappointing reload animations. DS remake at least adds level inter connectivity though making Isaac talk is just being spiteful for no reason. I think the enemy design is worse and more cartoony. Neither game needed a remake and people that prefer them over the originals are soulless golems with double digit IQ.

Looking back at my reply, I may have worded it poorly. While I'd agree that having them be overrun with the cultists and the outbreaks makes sense, my issue is that it could have been implemented better. Especially with how it built up with the Overseer (in Aftermath and the after credits of 2), I kinda wish they'd have added some sort of conclusion to them. Hence, why I figured having them serve as one of the last active ships that goes after the main characters seemed fitting to me. Like the fact that despite their government likely gone for good, they're still obsessed with their need to harness the markers. Issac would be now fighting this great threat while in the middle of the battle between worship and essentially hunger (given the energy crisis EarthGov is facing).

And you're right about the message regarding the dangers of believers, but there's the "non-believers" that desire their own form of control/power. Basically opposite ends of the coin, at least that's how I felt when playing Dead Space 2. Of course, they've proven to not be much better (actually worse), than their predecessors and coming full circle to this fact was interesting.

Okay so the markers were always weapons used to drive sentient beings into madness.
They were "told" how to make more. But what the OG markers do is to make sure they don't tell anyone how to make one "like itself".
That's why red markers started to become a thing despite that may not be the original intention.
They're "convinced" they "made a better marker" and it's "their idea" when it wasn't their idea. It was the original programming of the black OG markers to convince anyone else that what they're making is a "better superior version".
What is actually happening is that when they make these "better" markers, they're putting things into action.
Black markers were on dead planets to begin with because that's what killed all the planets but they were unable or too underdeveloped to make "the better marker".
But humans are the worst ones who could have found it.
The result of of it is what you saw at the end of 3, problem is though that the devs never got to fully impliment was the moons were meant to keep space dead so the original creators (who we never meet) could be the only ones left.

Which tied perfectly to an audio log you find in DS 2 from one of the research staff that came to this realization. ("We don't know how to make this thing. It is making us MAKE IT! And it's trying to get out, desperately").
I also remember there was a white Marker in Mobile which was speculated to imply the apparent "counter signal" that was in the human mind that Altman discovered in Martyr (main reason why he was resistant to it) and shown with some of the characters (like the "Oracle" program in Severed). And this also culminated as to where the markers came from in the first place. Sort of like the "chicken and the egg" dilemma with respect to the brethren moons. Which was explored in one of the cut audio logs in DS 2, where a seperate researcher comes to the theory that this may be all part of this eons long conflict spanning long before their own existence. And it's rather horrifying to imagine what would cause the ones to create these markers.
Especially with the theme shown that all sentient life evolves to a rate where they lose the ability to properly sustain themselves, the cycle which leaves them to rely on the markers and it's appearance of promising unlimited energy.
The message of the dangers in belief you brought up earlier is still amongst the core theme of the series, and there's also this issue of sustainability and need for control in what may be an eventuality of a doomed existence. Which makes humanity the most devastating factor in this cycle.
I really wish they could have explored the other themes I had listed much more along with the first one you've pointed out. Once more I can only hope that Motive actually gets to it (and does it right).
But, to quote the last line Issac said to Carver:
"This truly is the Dead Space Awakening."

In DS 3, sure. Though 2 (potential remake that is) he would still be struggling with the hallucinations like the original. But, the white Marker could be really anything. Maybe it was first that had an benevolent purpose before the corrupted black markers, maybe it was created down the line as a counter force. Unfortunately, there's not much for me to really go off of. Shit, maybe it's a mix of what you and I both listed. It would be interesting to see it explained or implemented in some way.

I mean...maybe? I always got the impression that the others always had it. Like the one outlier that's resistant or immune to a virus that can infect countless others (like an evolutionary lottery if you will), excpet the dementia signal makes you go mad or just build more markers if you're "smart" (kinda funny in hindsight at how they worded that). Then again, you have Nolan Stross who's essentially afflicted with the best of both worlds. But, Ellie seemed to be resistant before meeting Isaac and Lexine Weller never met him, so who knows. This really hinges on whether Motive will take note of this detail and how they would implement it (if they choose to).

RE4 (Original), Dead Space 2, Dead Space 1, RE4make, Dead Space (Remake), Dead Space 3 (the only objectively weak title among the six).
RE4 original has more atmosphere and charm than the remake but with that said, I speedran both the RE4 remake and RE2 remake (that you should have also included in the list along with SH2 and it's recent remake). Also got a top 100 rank on mercs (for a while) with Wesker. RE4 remake is better than RE2 remake (which is still excellent) and both are miles ahead of RE3 remake (which also should have been here).

You are looking at it from the perspective of practicality I get it. If you are to climb up a frozen mountain you would wear the cover art suit,can't remember its name. But for soldiers making rounds inside the base like patrols and for hypothetical combat scenarios the SCAF legionary suit would still be worn as standard issue military equipment. And from all the armored suits in the franchise it actually gives the best full body coverage with its plating. Besides even if Necros don't use bullets I would still want a sci fi ultra durable ceramic plate between my chest and a vicious bone blade coming to rip my lungs out.

Sure I agree with that. If you were to remove the Necro threat from the equation the Archeologist suit would be the go to gear for the exploration of such an environment. But for combat scenarios I would definetely choose the Legionary suit even perhaps above the Military suit of DS1 as it appears to have less gaps in its plating than it.

But it seems like all RIGS are meant to be able to handle being in the vacuum of space which is wild because minerals traveling through space go around at speeds of 5,600 to 10,100 miles per hour.
