is picrel a decent place to start if I want to 1cc my first shmup? why do discord fags argue against playing mame vs. 360? Wouldn't the arcade slowdown be more likely to be accurately emulated by something like mame rather than a completely arbitrary console?

I don't know, I think I've seen one of those screenshots with full of purple bullets from this game, not exactly a good experience for your first 1cc

Mushi has multiple difficulties so he's fine as long as he doesn't pick ultra.

Yeah, sure. Original is easy enough and despite the name Maniac isn't too crazy either.
Anonymous No.717351397 [Report]
>>717350324 (OP)
If you like the game, sure. I think Mushi is basic enough as far danmaku style shumps go, you can focus on getting gud at the dodging and shooting. Also it has a Steam port too, you might want to use that.
Try Maniac too after Original, it's not that bad. Ultra will be the really difficult one with the TLB at the end, so you can come back to that when you really want to sweat and play this game for months to come.

It's where I did my first 1cc. Normal-Original. It took about 25 hours or so on the steam port of the game. Highly recommend. Make sure to take advantage of stage select, particularly for stages 3,4 and 5.

Yeah it's fine. Could try to 1cc novice mode first.

I wouldn't trust discordfags on anything, but to answer your question; it depends. Mame got a lot better recently, but it was never that accurate in the past. Some ports have QoL features that lower the learning curve or make the game less tedious to play. For example, the arcade version of Battle Garegga needs to be reset every time for optimal play due to some bullshit with the rank system and also has a needlessly long loading screen, though on an emulator you can load from a save state to get around it.

Garegga isn't that bad. It's Batrider that's awful, since they noticed that people were resetting Garegga machines to reset the rank. So the solution was to make it so that Batrider's rank starts off really high after resetting so you need to wait fucking forever for it to cool down. You definitely want savestates to not deal with that.

Absolutely
>why do discord fags argue against playing mame vs. 360?
Because the xbox and steam version has better emulated slowdown than standalone MAME, something pretty important for Maniac and specifically Ultra
>Wouldn't the arcade slowdown be more likely to be accurately emulated by something like mame rather than a completely arbitrary console?
In theory

It's harder than other "starting point", "first 1cc" shmups, but it's not terrible. I think it's more important that you like the game enough to want to 1cc it, first and foremost. So have fun!

Espgaluda and Deathsmiles are easiest Cave shmups to 1cc.

I haven't played the 360 version of Mushihimesama because it isn't region free, only Futari is. But why not just get a modern port of the game on Switch or PC? Both the Switch and Steam version are excellent, and by some miracle it doesn't have the added input lag on Switch that some shmups do.
Anonymous No.717355765 [Report] >>717358871
Batrider?
That was a cool run because I managed to keep the medal chain all the way from stage 1 to 6, up to this cap.
Unfortunately I fucked up big time first at stage 5 by missing one extend(it spawned inside the goddamn tunnels), and then I just moved in the wrong direction at stage 6 during the midboss. Could have done it otherwise with the 4.5m extend + the 6m extend at stage 7.

I guess so. It will still take time to 1cc as it's relatively hard despite being easier by shmup standards. There are easier games for sure like Deathsmiles and Touhou but the novice mode is really really easy at least, you can definitely do that, but the goal is to 1cc normally.

Don't fall for the "beginner friendly" shmup meme, pick ones that you know you're going to stick to it, because regardless of difficulty you're still going to have a hard time trying to 1cc a game.
As long as you avoid something that's difficult as fuck anything would do, best tip for shmup is sticking to the game to beat it instead of deluding that the you're going beat the game in 3 days because it's "beginner friendly".
Pic rel is my first 1cc.
Anonymous No.717361005 [Report]
>>717359292
Good post.
I think intuitively people won't pick a shmup that's way too hard as their first anyway, but indeed the best "beginner shmup" for a first 1cc is the one you want to play, and the second 1cc too, and the third. The idea is that you keep playing until it happens, so you are going to stick with it for a while.

It's a great game to start with, Mushihimesama Original is great at teaching you the basics of the genre in general and maniac also for the danmaku style. It will still be hard for a first game, but worth it.

>why do discord fags
There are many mentally ill fags in the community that get mindbroken over certain consoles or game versions, just play in what you prefer or have. Even playing on the Switch is fine.
And in particular the ports of Mushi are good.

Crimzon Clover has quite a few filler segments. It's the main reason I haven't 1cc'ed it, despite being relatively easy. I just can't get myself to play through those boring stages.
Anonymous No.717368551 [Report]
Guess I don't particularly mind the whole game-long medal chaining if you can actually miss medals as long it's not the last one on screen and you get more by just bombing in certain spots. You generally get enough score for extends without having to sacrifice too much rank management either.

That final boss is so fucking bullshit though, goddamn it Yagawa what the hell. At least it has a good theme.

Nearly the entirety of stage 4 with popcorn after popcorn coming straight at you, some big enemies to weave left and right, those 5 laser thingies circling around you, the midboss that you just have to go around in a circle.
Stage 5 the return of the stage 2 boss and the small enemies before the final boss.

Mushihimesama on Normal is a very good first 1CC. Mame has some timing issues so I'd recommend the Steam release, just don't alt-tab because tabbing back in introduces a bunch of input lag until you restart the game.
