DOOM The Dark Ages
Who asked for this?
It's not as mindless fun as 2016, and it's not as intense and complex as Eternal either
And it has awful PS2-tier "vehicle" gimmick sections on top of that (the mech, the dragon and the turret)

Probably played through Sekiro and told himself "Hey you know what would be great? a heckin' Captain America shield and parry shite in DOOM!!"

Game flopped really bad
On top of the game being objectively underwhelming and sloppy when compared to Eternal and 2016, they had the gall to ask 70-80 bucks for the game, make it full raytracing with no way to turn it off, and release it with just the main campaign, no multiplayer mode, and no arcade mode like 2016 and Eternal.
The all-time peak numbers of players for Dark Ages is 31,401 3 months ago, with 200 players less than 2016 all-times peak of 31,623 in fucking 2016, 9 years ago, when Steam didn't have as much players back then
Abysmal AAA slop of the worst kind, you can smell the stench of Microsoft meddling all over it.

Even if they do, it won't ever be as good as Eternal or even 2016 because no Mick Gordon
I know he's glazed to no end but his music slapped and added a genuine OOMPH and energy to the experience
The music in Dark Ages is awful, always the same kind of basic ass metal, all the tracks sound samey

>Let's add a standard ass game story that introduce some literally who characters, and make the Doomguy seem like a side character to the story
The people that thought this up need to get fucking fired immediately
And to think people complained about Eternal's story, which true was buttfuck retarded, but it was still entirely driven by the Doomguy's actions, as it should be

The story was incredibly more convoluted and disjointed than Eternal somehow, despite them allegedly focusing on it more (lol)
In Dark Ages I remember the cutscene where you go in the ancestral forge of my ass crack with the girl boss, mission ends, next thing you know Doomguy enters hell, no build up, no prior information letting you know that Doomguy needs to go to hell next
It almost feels like some cutscenes are missing, none of this shit makes any sense whatsoever

I finished it 2 hours ago.
The art direction and atmosphere were great.
The plot... was ok but Carmack was right.
Lovecraft was cool and all but what does it do it here? Though I think they can make new brand game about Lovecraft worlds
The same for Dragon and Mecha. It doesn't belong here even if it was cool.
Didn't like parry gimmick, it ruined the rhytm of the battle for me,
Overall I liked but less than 2 previous games.

I swear the Cosmic realm shit adds nothing to the fucking game or to the themes of DOOM
Just green weird sea monsters world, with huge black monoliths.
Hell should be the place that is fucked up and weird, but in this game, Hell just looks like a normal place, orange swampy forests with volcanos
Hell was done much better in both 2016 and Eternal.
At least Urdak introduction in Eternal was good thematically, considering it's supposed to be "Heaven" realm.

I don't disagree.
All I tell is that if they made the game not related to Doom about this, it could be very good because art direction was great this time.

>Who asked for this?
I did.
It feels good to finally get a version of Doomguy combat that feels like has real oopmh and weight and momentum instead of just being snappy or relaxed. This is the first nuDoom game in which the fantasy of "you're ultra aggressive and scary and the enemies fear you for a reason" of NuDoom is actually fulfilled in the gameplay, as opposed to previous games that just told it to you through lore while the gameplay was about keeping your distance and avoiding direct conflict.

The 2 major problems of the game: #1 the dragon sections just being way too long and happening too often. I don't mind the turret sections or mech sections lol they're both a total of like 10 minutes in the whole game, don't get why there's so much fuss over them. The dragon sections on the other hand add up to hours. #2 the overdone slow mo effect when you parry. Just breaks the flow of combat. Luckily an update soon will let you reduce or outright delete the slowmo.

Clair 33 (among many other games) was also on GamePass day one and had 4-5x as many concurrent players as Doom (which would roughly track with sales seeing as it sold 3 million units in its first month). GamePass adoption on PC has never really taken off because everyone prefers Steam over the Xbox store.
DOOM Dark Ages has only reportedly sold a little more than 1 millions copies so far, which is fucking pathetic compared to Eternal's numbers and hype, COVID or not COVID.

The combat loop is extremely boring after you reach the halfway point
Doesn't help that the enemy roster is quite limited, game doesn't introduce anything new after that, which is a big problem considering how the campaign drags on and on..
I've seen videos from the faggot Underthemayo where he explains some "tech" and it's basically just jumping through hoops just to achieve something as basic as weapon switching that isn't clunky and unnecessary slow
And when I say weapon switching, I'm not even talking about lightning fast combo switching, just switching your weapon during a fight
Anonymous No.717368939 >>717372136

After fighting ten or so Cyberdemons, I realized at that point how formulaic and quite limited the combat is
Basically you go into the Cyberdemon's face, pull out your super shotgun, wait for green melee attack, parry, shoot SSG, wait for green melee attack, parry, shoot SSG, and so on
The game gives you little incentive to use different weapons or strategies against different enemies, just pull out your SSG and you will delete anything in mere seconds
