Why are video game protagonists all aromantic/asexual now unless it's a dating sim or an RPG where the protagonist is "you"?

i dont want to see fictional romance, that shit is boring

Romance is a foreign concept for video game writers

Joking aside, a protagonist being sexual should only be obvious if the story asked for it.
E.g. Bayek and his wife, since the death of his son and the drama between them played a key role in the story

Well the question should be "Why is the west so hellbent on fucking anything that walks when civilized people actually want real meaningful relationships?"
You come from black culture brain rot. You treat sex like a luxury. You're corrupted to the core.

Fictional romance is idealized because the real thing sucks

Americans are conditioned into treating sex like shaking someone's hand.
It means nothing to them because of science fucking up the laws of nature.

The East is like this too though

To a point.
But the difference is that there are Americans who think they can "easily" hook up with Japanese women.
That's not how that works there because they're extremely traditional and reserved compared to American culture women.
By a landslide.

It's not like back in the day you had a lot of romance in games.

>unless it's a dating sim
Visual Novels are not Dating Sims, wojackfag. There hasn't been a new dating sim in years.

What exactly is the difference between a visual novel and a dating sim?
Where is the line?

>>717352860
It was at least implied, new games just avoid it altogether

Stop using videogames as coping mechanism for your romantic failures.

Dating Simulators are SIMULATORS. They have actual stats and time management and minigames and shit and usually have a number of genuine failure states that can result from poor planning.

Visual Novels are just computer-based Choose Your Own Adventure books. Sometimes they use stats for narrative convenience but it always just boils down to a largely linear CYOA narrative with defined end states.

OP posted a doomer image, implying he was unsatisfied with the lack of romance in games, something only single people would care about.

Single people now make up the majority of the population, so that's not the gotcha you think it is

Tokimeki is the most soulful

Tokimeki Memorial is the absolute fucking king and has never been topped. The only translated version is the SNES port, which has less content (and no VA) but does have some exclusive stuff. Give it a shot. If you can read moonrunes then the PS1 port is better.
Dokyuusei isn't anywhere near as good but is still alright, though it leans closer to Visual Novel.

any without them to start with
Anonymous No.717357750

Outside of the Tokimeki SNES translation patch, not really. The reason why there's so much confusion over the term "Dating Sim" in the west is because we literally never got any Dating Sims when they were actually relevant.
