I genuinely love this whole situation because it's just a bunch of underage kids who never heard of pre 2020 games other than minecraft and fortnite discovering this "WHOLE NEW GENRE! IT HAS PIXELS SO IT'S SOOO VINTAGE!! SOUL SOUL SOUL!" but if you were to suggest them to play any pre 2000s game they would drop it in 5 seconds due to how difficult or boring or ugly it is.

There's a freeware RPG named "amulets and armor" with that vibe.
...yet it is missing the important element of "huge scale".
It still shows what the aesthetics would look like in an actual game.
It's from 1997 but (graphics aside) it could be an indie game made yesterday, it is very modern.
