Why aren't you a gamedev? its easy, the engine does like 90% of the work.
its not the 90s anymore you don't have to be particularly smart.

you have to be smart. the tools make things easier, but the expectations for a good game are higher as well. don't delude yourself into thinking you can make a 90s game and it'll be a hit.
Holy shit, indie devs keep setting the bar lower and lower with these garbage threads.

No, AI does make it all easy. You still need to figure out your style, put the output into the right format, clean it up, and make sure the entire work is consistent. >>717361035I think the consistency aspect is gonna be the most important metric by which games are measured going forward. People (even the non art-types) will become hypersensitive to the slop and vehemently reject anything that feels like a one-shot gen, regardless of whether or not it was AI generated. I've personally been kitbashing together ai gens and doing paintovers and other modifications, slowly working towards finding a novel style. The tech for generation is moving so fast I feel like the only thing that's futureproof is developing the concepts and "ground truth" resources that could then be later fed into a better model, or have enough examples to finetune a LoRA.
Picrel are some rough kitbashes, I really like the sort of weird psychedellic patterns that Dall-e 3 put out initially, and then downsampling through Retrodiffusion gives me a good resolution to start cleaning up manually.

Learning how much and what context to include is the key to getting the most out of transformer based models.

There's some media that has invented weaponry. Mortal shell, star wars and bloodborne come to mind. Gunblade is another established classic.
Creating unique types of armor that feature different gameplay quirks: in this example, the Bone Armor makes Fygoon more vulnerable to attacks but provides bonuses for firepower.
>>717369959That's not it. Firstly, this worked well for months, secondly, I even used not only a new device, but also a new internet connection. Seems like it's getting worse. The length of output seems smaller, too. Sometimes I had huge astrophysics output, with math and text and everything. Not anymore.
>>717369749Take any random household tool and think how to make it bigger and kill a person with it. Cork screwer, wrench, etc.

Been having fun with my Rokoko suit/gloves/face mocap. Installed a voice mod today to test if I can use the audio together with the mocap. The voice mod is rough, too many artifacts. It works for heavily edit voices, such as robots and wizards. But yeah, not great.
Same goes for the mocap. Without a Rokoko coil pro, its meh. I might as well stick to animation packs and automated facial movement.

And if you're making your own assets, get a pen tablet. You don't need one with a screen, just make it large enough to work with. Test with pen and paper beforehand to see what size you need. Look whenever the new ones come out, then get the previous one on sale.

I remember a discussion on a certain h-game's d*scord channel where taking an existing 60fps animation and cutting it like that produces dissonant choppy results, while animating on twos "manually" results in a more organic feel, but is harder to pull off unless one is particularly skilled in motion animating.

>>717370276Additionally, here is the Regal Armor. This armor causes enemies to not engage Fygoon (aside from bosses) and doubles his damage output.

been cracking at a bullet hell typing game for some months now. it's a bit movement based, as you maybe can tell by the arrows on the HUD. i was inspired by movement shooters and the P meter in the older mario games. rewards you for staying on your toes while typing.
right now the combat feels... just okay. i think i need to add the obvious stuff, like some sort of death animation for the enemy. but also some animations when you type out the correct word, like perhaps some lasers that shoot out of the text input box and go right into your enemy, or something. anything to make it feel like your typing hits real hard.
i've also been composing the music. i really like electro and chiptune sounding stuff, things you'd hear in older flash games.
the area in the webm is a WIP. i'm kind of slacking real hard on environment/level design. i used to tell myself i just didn't like working with tilesets and such but then i look at my non-gamedev drawings and see that i barely put in the effort for any kind of background. everything will still have that green, computer look though. hope i chose a good set of colors.

How lings the dialogue? Are you using specialised llm or generalised? I found a rather cheap online story generator (likely gpt) and I must say that the structure of dialogues was really good, but the content of course 0/10. Have you tried working emotional beats or the like?

Try working with closer beats. Maybe outline the story for the llm.

>>717384271The shooting mechanic is quite neat, but got a little weird when you clicked a spot out of your LoS. The visuals also look kind of muddy in the two images you posted. Playing with the idea of using prerendered stories for my 2D MMO. There's currently no animation, and this seems to be the only practical way to do it (since your gear is shown on your character). That means rapidly learning enough about 3D modelling/animation.
And even then, it's not clear that it'll be practical:
16 frames ร 32-bit bitmap ร 10 animations ร 108ร108 pixels ร 8 directions = 57MB of sprites in memory per on-screen character.

Game Maker has been dead for a while.
The thing is that YoYo Games kept erasing previous versions and everything associated with them, so people would be forced to buy latest, more expensive versions.
When they moved to subscription model in 2021, everyone just fucked off.
In 2022 they rebranded from "Studio 2" to just "GameMaker" and wiped Studio 2 associated content eventually closing down Marketplace in 2024.
The Marketplace, where you could get various projects and extensions is still down a year later; userbase is decimated; tutorials made from previous versions are outdated and incompatible with current GM.
It's over.
The games that you still see coming out on it are from people who got sucked into it years ago and been stuck making them for years.
Do yourself a favor and move on to Godot or Unity instead.
>>717400459>UE5I knew it already, there was stuttering at the start which gave it away. Only needed a confirmation. Wish it wasn't such a horribly optimized engine, glad I dodged a bullet and went for UE4 instead.

>>717412908I disagree with the other guy, in that you need motivation to do this. You can just do it because it sounds like fun. You don't need a good reason to do anything in life IMO, it can just be fun to do it.
Yeah, just do whatever sounds fun. Keep in mind that most language-specific courses are going to have you doing a bunch of shit that you'll never use in gamedev, you're better off looking for an engine-specific 101 course then download some demo/sample projects to look through and see how they handle basic mechanical implementation and you're basically good to rumble, make some stuff, join some jams, live a more fun life than 99% of neets automatically.

>>717456656>give it a bit more weight by making the player pull the shield back more and waiting a secondBe careful with that, anon. Too much windup or buildup can very easily cross over into annoying and unsatisfying 'input lag' territory, if the attack's power doesn't match it.

If you want a real stop motion look you need to also create the animation. You cannot get it look good with mixamo anims or whatever because the way that they are move is not how stop motion or clay mation will look.
further you need to also step everything else at the same rate, otherwise the player will notice inconsistent. See your particles? Your waterfall? too fast.
but, do you know even how to create a stepped time function for those? Ask yourself that first before you proceed on the rig anims.
>>717456861agree, that worries me. Would need to keep the animation the same length of the current one, maybe 1 or 2 frames more at most, it wouldn't feel very good. Another option would be to have 2 shield bashes, a normal one by pressing the button, and a more powerful one that's done when holding down the button. Might be cool since I have normal and heavy enemies, and the charged shield bash could throw away even heavy enemies. But yeah I still have to try and decide on that.

>>717457059The guy who animated Destiny for Bungie had a pretty good rule for his melee animation that I follow to this day since that game is hailed to this day for having satisfying and impactful first person gameplay. Your game is third person, so YMMV
>doesn't start from idle, idle would be something like -2 rather than 1 in the keyframes>frame 3 is the 'anticipation pose', the part where your character has primed his muscles for the melee swing>frame 5 is the 'hit pose', this is the exact frame where your melee connects with the enemy>rest of the animation is winding down/recovering and may be a longer animation up to 30 frames even, how long you want it becomes a question of game designAnd his previous standard in Halo games was that frame 3 was always the 'hit pose'.
Of course it's strange to bring up exact keyframes because none of this stuff is universal, but I think Destiny/Halo melee was always an impactful and satisfying "I'm gonna need you to piss off right now" move.
Your second option reminds me of Smash Bros, you could charge side special/smash attacks in that game for extra impact and they always had great effects to go along with them.

>>717376541thanks, I almost got the navmesh working now.
>>717461456>almost got the navmesh workingMay be an overstatement, but it moves on the mesh somewhat.

Time to enter the lair.
>>717461775That's not a navmesh tho, that's a grid.
Navmesh would require collapsing the area that allow full inner movements and only processing which border of the current area you need to exit to get to the next.
Good job anyway. Pathfinding is pain.
>>717462058The ultra-butchered anime lighting style doesn't mix well with "just a photography of a real rock" environments.
>>717462152This is a simplified view of the central points inside of each subgrid, basically a super tiny zoomed out look at the world. Each numbered black circle is the center of one of 64 10x10 areas which will each be connected up to the middle. It does look like a grid, it's just a really badly represented mesh. Thanks, I had a mesh working in an older game, but I spun it like a spider and now I'm trying to make it procedural based on obstacles.

Felt like addressing how I barely started the Hirdrih game.
>>717462058looks cool, but I agree with the other anon. Dunno about the rest of the game but there sure is two styles clashing in that pic.
