For me it was idling in trade servers, I wasted about a year of my life collecting metal, keys, hats, and other items back in about 2012 ish? maybe 2013. It felt like being trapped in purgatory, but the trade server antics would occasionally become fun-ish if the right group of people were online making funny jokes or arguing about stupid shit.

Back then it was the wild west, the trade interface was built into the game with no restrictions, you could accept instantly. It made it possible to scam people who didn't know the value of anything.

To get the metal I idles eight different steam accounts each week and grinded up the weapon drops, it was a reliable source of refined metals that I traded all back to my main account.

My favorite community servers have been dead for years.

I don't like cosmetics constantly bloating the file size and most of my friends dropped it.
Mostly I just moved on to other things. I do occasionally want to reinstall and play Engie, but I doubt any of the servers I visited are still active.

Right after the tough break update nerfed combo-pyro into hell but also buffed the phlog as a joke.
I tried coming back after the big matchmaking/pyro updates, but the magic just isn't there anymore.

I don't get why people hate playing Heavy so much. He absolutely tears shit up in payload and when he sneaks behind the enemy team he can easily murder all of them solo before they can react

I was playing this yesterday and some guy in voice and in chat kept saying “who wishes DasBoSchitt would make more gmod idiot box videos” like it was something common that people know about. He also sounded severely autismal, he had “the voice” where you can just tell. It was so cringe guys.

best commu ff2 servers from my region were kil, nothing else came even close to the fun i had on them so i just stopped playing regularly

Lack of good maps. Goldrush and badwater were good starts, but maps like fastlane and granary were no longer being made. No fun cp maps like dustbowl, instead leaning into crap community maps like turbine. Steel was the last good map but the playerbase is too stupid to follow the big arrows around.

I never cared about it, but one autistic guy who was in the same discord as me always talked about it, he managed to brainwash two other guys into believing the game was good, in fact they used to say it was the "perfect game". Funny thing, they barely played it since it seems that they only had shitty old laptops that barely could run the game. That being said, this main guy I was talking about managed to convince me, maybe I was really bored back then, so I downloaded the game and played a couple of times with him, and that's it. Shortly after I left the discord server and never talked to them again, no need to say I never touched the game ever since too.

Invasion put a nasty taste in my mouth, and Meet Your Match killed all the community servers I loved. Started helping out with unique TF2 mods shortly after that bullshit but there was so much drama going on inside them I just moved on. I do wish I still cared though

Some of my favourite moments in the game were on idle servers. Just morons jumping all over the place and having insane conversations while frag radio played in the background.
I once fell off a platform and ended up in a hottub with a Saxton Hale NPC. It felt pretty gay.

It's just annoying trying to find a lobby that isn't fucked.

Join game. Check leaderboard. Sniper main on the other team with 80 more points then the second player on the leader board. Leave because I don't want to play sniper.
Join another game. The other team is playing like they don't have their keyboard plugged in. It's over in less then 5 minutes.
Join another- oop, actually that game just ended. Enjoy the double loading screen. Also everybody left because the new map sucks. Back to the lobby.

I guess community servers are a little better, but most are dead.

OKAY I HAVE A WEIRD OPINION, BUT I FEEL LIKE THIS GAME SUFFERS A HUGE ISSUE WHERE EVERYONE HAS AN INSANELY RADICAL OPINION ON EVERYTHING IN THE GAME, WHETHER ITS SHITLIBS OR CONSERVATIVES, AND IF YOU DO NOT PICK EITHER SIDE YOU ARE BASICALLY NOT EVEN WORTH A THOUGHT. THIS IN TURN CAUSES THE GAME TO HAVE AN INSANELY WEIRD FANBASE OF SHIT SLINGING ACROSS BOTH SIDES, AND LEAVES NO ROOM FOR NORMAL PEOPLE TO ENJOY. EVERYONE HAS TO HAVE AN OPINION ON SOMETHING.
