Anybody here play videogames?
Wondering about this game because its weirdly been recommended to me, not just when asking for zelda in general but classic Zelda which is odd. Because my impression is that its just a generic BOTW copy, that was my impression when playing the demo, and Im tired of running across large plains of grass engaging with the same shitty enemies to fight for no real actual reason other than the fact that a game should have something to do along the way. But I've also heard this be described as such a puzzle heavy game that even something like BotW, which is a zelda game, presumably isnt as puzzle solvey.

Does anybody actually like this game who has any indepth thoughts on it that can clear up some of my conceptions on it?

I played and beat this game sometime in the last few years. I recall enjoying it overall. A very worthy adventure game. I like the puzzle "shrines" that had some pretty involved platforming as well, where you had to use the flight and dashing tricks. The combat was actually enjoyable enough due to the different sword/axe combos and dashing attacks and bow and just enough enemy variety. Great graphics too, now that I remember. Very "fortnite" era colors and textures.

What annoyed me was the tone of the story and character dialogue. Every single character was very flippant and obnoxious, hardly taking anything seriously despite the subject matter being these heavy greek tragedies and atrocities and abuse.

Here's something I noticed, that the ability to fly long distances pretty much ruined the traversal across the world and therefore made the geography feel pointless. Combined with the fact that you could "find" landmarks through your first person view, which would leave a minimap icon. It ended up turning the game into a chore to just knock out secrets quickly, it accidentally drained the "exploration" part right away.

Good game, I can see why /v/ would either dismiss it or make up reasons to shit on it though.

Have you played breath of the wild?
Fenyx is decent, some of it's puzzles are good but others are bad and tedious, so it evens out
If ticking map markers off of an open world doesn't appeal to you, the puzzles might not be enough for you to enjoy it. I'd put it as a 7.5/10 and I liked some parts of it more than BotW.

Yeah this was my impression with the demo. Really despise open worlds, but not just that, but how BotW "revolutionized" the idea that they could be good...if all you did was include a glider and braindead "verticality" that destroys any need to ever engage with the world

I mean, to be fair, there's a fuck ton of other media out there that has covered this type of thing seriously if that's more your speed. I'm not gonna get upset because something wants to take the piss for a change instead of just playing the Greek tragedies completely straight again.

It's not Zelda it's Assassin's Creed Odyssey but with less loot autism. Like yeah, there's shrine-likes but the game feels a lot more like an AC title despite the BotW-like shrines. I would say I liked the combat somewhat, with the way it handles the resource flow. I enjoyed my time with it but the DLC bore me to tears

I thought it was too easy (in combat, platforming and puzzles) to be any fun. If I played it when I was a kid I would have loved it and it seems that's the target of the game, taking the tone into account.

Ive played so many zelda likes honestly that im becoming more and more disillusioned with the fact that the zelda formula is fundamentally trash, almsot all the zelda likes also just happen to include the time wasting fetch quests before every dungeon but somehow even worse. Okami is the biggest exemplar of this.
Anonymous No.717366598 >>717370152

It's really sad, because games like Okami, no one would have been able to rationally claim the game needed to be longer. But the developers just really wanted to print "30 hours!" on the box so they killed the pacing so hard I will never play the game again despite getting the itch to do so every year or so

Same goes for every 3d zelda after majora's mask

Not him, but I hardly consider something a fetch quest when the thing you are fetching is found within a new area. Usually fetch quests are reserved for backtracking

Darksiders used "fetch 3 key items" as a creativity clutch, but you can't compare it to shit like the triforce piece hunt or all the times skyward sword made you travel the same 3 maps like 5 times

What the fuck is the arbitrary definition lmao what????? Have you never played an RPG? Where they visit a town and they say "Go to X forest area outside of the village and collect x amount of things" Or the WORST amount of fetch quests where they dont tell you remotely where to find things, so you just have to trial and error willy nilly kill a number of enemies like looking for a needle in a haystack. Its even worse if the enemy drops multiple different items with different chances so you dont even know whether youre attacking the right enemy or not.

The problem with DarkSiders is that it fillers the process of "finding an arbitrary enemy to collect an item from" with multiple incredible low quality linear dungeons with enemy spam inbetween and braindead combat, and like ONE or TWO diverse puzzles inbetween. And you have to go through all of this, knowing none of it is the real content, just waiting to get to the actual dungeon with more than Two interesting puzzles, but the EXACT same generic "Lock the gate behind you and force you to fight like 5 enemies" shit or. "Climb up wall to clear blatant unnatural indent in wall to hold onto, that's always the exact same looking type no matter what surface it is.

first one is only platforming/puzzles with no open world
second one is chinese and plays like an abridged version with only one god's questline and reskins on everything
third one changes the camera angle to top-down and tries to play like diablo, it's probably the best one but still not as good as the base game

"request" threads are against the rules. a 3x3 thread isn't someone requesting recommendations on what to play next, it is people comparing and contrasting what they think the best games are. a happy side effect is that you can see a wide array of games and get some new ideas as to what to play next.

It was fun, I liked the combat where you could air juggle enemies like some sort of dmc lite.
Reasonable length too, you don't have to 100% the map either, iirc a lot of things you find are cosmetic/side-grades for specific builds. Next time I play I'm sure I'll find new dungeons/puzzles I didn't encounter on my first run
