I should have known they were just gonna teleport me there. FromSoft loves their teleports and elevators that let them skip designing interesting levels/areas.

I think nightreign and this upcoming duskbloods is their attempt to make the combat closer to AC6's pace. They made decent sales, considering it's a mecha game, but the real money is obviously in the fantasy genre, so they need to get more of the AC6 combat pace into Soulslike settings.

I feel like the dashing in Nightreign is a nice mechanic, but it needs to just replace the old running altogether, and let characters do side-step dodges while dashing instead.
If they can bring the high-mobility boosting, and find an excuse to let characters do stamina based short-term flight, like some Aspect of the Crucible wings or some shit, then they'll have effectively overcome this wall they've hit with souls combat. Because SoulsBorneRingkiro was always just slower Armored Core.

i know i shouldn't be autistic about visual fidelity for a game, but vfx in houdini has spoiled me so hard for things like tornados, flames, and smoke that when i see it in a game i can't help but be annoyed by the quality difference. i pray to god we can do cinema-tier visuals in realtime.

Where they put it in the overworld is arbitrary because you don't just walk over to it, it is a sealed away ancient domain of another era.
It appears on the map vaguely closer to the area its probably split off from, but the game never pretended that it was a standard part of the overworld.
You can kinda see it from Malenia's divine tower, but that is a magical realm itself.

It is literally the home base of a previous Lord of a previous cycle who ripped the entire area out of time and spends eternity praying and trying to commune with his God again.
This is all extremely obvious when you play the game. You can only get there through teleportation or invasion.
It is basically a pocket dimension. Where the assets are located on the overworld map is totally arbitrary. It doesn't matter, and you are a retard if you think they 'cheated' by making it nonvisible when you aren't inside.

Elden Ring has no issue showing you stuff from early on. You can see the Forge of the Giants from the start of the game. Farum Azula being invisible is intentional.

No, you just see it from there because the tower is a hidden area itself and you can open it only after Malenia is dead (so you're close to discovering Azula anyway). Otherwise the isolated divine tower doesn't differ from the other divine towers. That anon is right and you people will excuse or handwave any fucking design decision. I don't care about that detail myself but it's tiring to see mostly either contrarian retards hating on the game or cum guzzlers in ER threads.

The isolated tower on the other hand is pretty separated and is in its own magical area that you can only get to via teleportation from an obscure area in of itself.

Really hated Farum Azula. Some pieces are interesting but it was pretty fucking boring, everything was so grey it felt like going through that slog called Dark Souls 3 all over again. Demon/Dark Souls are peak, DS2 is a bad sequel, DS3 is a bad fanservice and Elden Ring is just shallow.

it's too big but I wouldn't call it shallow. Ideally the regions should have like 3-4 mini dungeons, one bigger side dungeon (castle morne in limgrave, caria manor in liurnia etc.) and the main course. Agree with you on the rest.
