BoF suffers from being slow and repetitive when it doesn't need to be. 4 is the culimation of everything wrong with that approach. Not a bad game. But definitely not a good one.
It was also released when capcom started rushing games to market unfinished. There's several moments in 4 where this is apparent.

Its pretty good, way less of a grindfest compared to BoF 3 too

I wonder if the modern day one patch would've turned these well liked but flawed games into more than just cult classics.

4 is good, the story is pretty slow at times but overall fairly interesting.
i like 3 too but just because 3 is good doesn't mean 4 is bad.

Im a huge BoF fan but its pretty mid, and I think too grindy for the zoom zoom generation. It's a great game and I love it but its not for everyone. Mixed with podcasts I'd recommend it though.

He is talking about the Emperor, the secondary antagonist, not his assistant which ends being the real villain which actually got away with everything.

I disagree, but what's funny is thats EXACTLY how I'd describe Dragons Dogma. So close to being great but ended up not even bring good.

Dead Rising was neutered to death to catter to the modern casual audience. Why would anyone give the slightest amount of attention today to a Dragon Quarter which featured an even more annoying system where the player is expected to properly manage their time over and over again, rather than a timer like in DR it is the fucking dragon system.

It's my favorite JRPG of all time, one of the top games period. Music is top tier, graphics have aged extremely well. Combat was fun, everything was just good.

It's incredibly generic.

It's one of the many B-RPG's that litter old consoles. It isn't really a bad game, but still isn't worth playing because of how uninspired it is.
Any affection people have for these types of games is purely nostalgia.

I liked it a lot. Something about 3 does not draw me in, but 4 drew me in a lot. I hated the slave moralistic ending a lot though.

I would have preferred a different ending where you continue the cycle by fusing with Fou-Lou, reaching a middle way, and decide to destroy human civilization and go back into sleeping for another thousand or so years. I hated the humanist ending and sending the gods away, especially when it was clear the damage was caused by corrupt men for exploiting the gods.

It's alright. But the game's battle system pretty much pigeon holes your party into using magic since using Ryu's Dragon Magic combos is the best source of damage in the game.

Unfortunately it is just a straight port of the original PC release from back then, nothing changes, same old censorship from the original, unless you known japanese and just switch to playing that version, then it instantly uncensors itself.

well they made it run on versions of windows newer than XP and made it so you didn't have to buy a copy of the chinese version off ebay for $300.
someone out there probably made an uncensor patch to put in the few cut cutscenes back into the game.

It's good, not the best VOF but a good one if this is your first VOF game.

3 > 4 > 5 > 2 > 1

A few of them are entire events that need translating and coding into the localized version, not just a simple cutscene reversion, that's why no one has bothered in 20 years.
