The image is “true” but RE4 is not trying to be the same kind of game as the originals. If it had any of those changes, it would be worse off for it.
Less slots is less weapon variety= worse action
Complicated puzzles make puzzles the focus instead of a breakup from the action
Less saves means the player can’t be as risky and dynamic in combat
More ammo for more/stronger enemies
Backtracking would shift gameplay away from action towards exploration. RE4 replaces map design with room design- it has complex rooms that create exciting combat encounters instead of stimulating exploration.

This image is false ammo has a cap on the inventory on 4 while on classic re games the ammo doesn't cap.

The enemies only drop ammo if the DA is set up for that, which means they drop less ammo if you play the game better.

I thought it was they drop more ammo if you use more ammo. So if you preferred to shoot over spamming the knife the game would account for that. I suppose strictly speaking using the least amount of ammo is “playing better” but I was under the impression that it’s more geared towards promoting the player’s preferences. It also drops more ammo of the guns you use more right?

You are absolutely drowning in ammo in the original RE3.

Those puzzles are essentially the same puzzle where you just need to arrange each part to overlay each to complete the correct image.

They drop more ammo the lower on a given ammo type you are.
It functions as a soft-cap, or as them dropping more ammo the more you use, or however else you want to frame it. The intention is tending towards you having some ammo but not an abundance of it.

Left does not lock you in rooms where defeating enemies is necessary to progress aside from boss fights so you are free to stockpile ammo practically all game and it also does not have rooms that require you to use your gun to escape by shooting targets. Some puzzles such as the winebottle also require your gun.

In principle they are but they’re frustrating the first time you play because you don’t know where and when you should save and trivial once you do. That’s not what I’d call a good game mechanic, or at least a good implementation of it.

I think it’s more about encouraging you to switch through weapons and to actually use your stronger ones (shotgun, magnum…) because otherwise people will just use the pistol or TMP for every room

re4 wasn't trying to be like the other games in the series because every game after re3 sold like shit
