My biggest problem with the game is that it felt kind of small and simple. Compared to Breath of the Wild with gigantic cities and bosses, this game really felt like it was trying to be cute and compact instead.

I pirated this and thought it was actually pretty good. I prefer regular Zelda with more of a combat focus, but playing as a summoner was cool. There's a small handful of summons that are super overpowered though. I killed almost everything with the moth monsters that shoot like rockets and broke most puzzles with the yellow platform monster. You can skip the entire water dungeon with it easily.

I barely noticed that you play as Zelda. Link is so androgenic and the graphics so stylized that it makes no difference. I honestly forgot I wasn't playing as Link.

Problem with game had nothing to do with playing as Zelda. It was having enemies fight for you and the telekinetic arm. It is also short, repetitive and easy; like for someone's first video game easy.

Having the enemies fight for you is a good idea, if Zelda played just like Link, it would feel like a simple reskin and not its own game, it serves the fantasy of playing as Zelda well, since she's not a trained fighter, but a ruler, so commanding her own minions feels more authentic for her.
I agree with the magic hand though, it's way too overpowered and it takes over the role of the minions in many places, it feels like it contradicts the main gameplay theme of the game, the same thing goes for the temporary link mode, it feels like they ran out of time/ideas to balance the game around the main gameplay theme of using miniosn and just added that in to make up for it, feels very amateurish.
They should've gone all in on the minion based gameplay, focosin on indirect approach to solving obstacles and puzzle-like gameplay, but that would be far harder to balance and playtest.

I pirated it and my wife enjoyed it. She rarely ever plays games, but loved playing Zelda as a kid so this perfect for her. Not every entry to the series needs to be the same old traditional shit and god forbid we continue getting the walking sims that are botw and totk.
The game isn’t amazing and definitely not perfect; the echo menu is absolutely terrible. But it is a solid 8. This game was meant to be played by kids and casual gamers, as are most Nintendo games. I’d focus more on Nintendo jewing their fanbase or suing them for passion projects more than hating on some charming Zelda game. The way Link is always sword mode with a meter for magic use, and Zelda in this game was magic mode with a meter for sword use, was kind of a cute rotation to me. I can start with "object based". I'll use TotK as an example. This game has a lot of different objects that can interreact with each other. When you shoot an ice arrow at water it can be used to make an ice plate. Which itself is another physical object that you can use. Now multiply this by 100 different object types and you get TotK. Minecraft is sorta similar here but with much more basic physics. And this gives the game so many variations of interaction and therefore gameplay.

I personally feel that TotK has a very distinct "order" to how things are done in the game. Like how to can plan out multiple attack ideas for enemies.

The game itself wasn't great. I had fun and all, but the echoes ruined combat and puzzles. As a template for future 2D Zeldas, though, it's very good. Give me this game but as Link and with the traditional item system and it'd probably be the best 2D Zelda. Also, a 3D game in a similar format would be a perfect combination of trad- and nuZelda. I also liked that they had a new villain besides Ganon and the lore additions.

When was the last time Link could actually use magic, Wind Waker?

The part when you fight alongside Link during the final stretch of the game was great, too bad it happened way too late in the story. Still a solid game overal but a bit unmemorable.
