It was pretty good. Loved the globe trotting adventure feel, brought me back to the old final fantasy games. The problem with Rebirth is that there was really no story or plot development except for Aeriths death which wasn’t executed properly, but the crazy thing is that the overall game is still good. Part three easily has the potential to be one of the best games of all time IF done correctly.

The main reason Cid's generally happier in Rebirth is probably because he's mostly just flying around. Also, the reason they gave him history with Aerith's mom was so that they could hit it off quickly, and thus Cid can actually be affected by Aerith's death. In the original game, Aerith dies before the party gets to Rocket Town. As for whether or not that was necessary, well, I guess it depends on how you look at it.

In Advent Children, everyone in the party wears a pink ribbon in memory of Aerith. Even Cid, despite the fact that he never met her in the original game.

Now my theory for SE skipping Rocket Town is because if they are gonna do the Shera arc at all, they don't want the let Cid bitching her out sit all the way through the development of the 3rd game. Part of that's because she doesn't even make physical contact with the things she hits most of the time. Tifa already has the shortest range in the game, so forcing her to actually touch the things she's hitting would probably be kind of a pain in the ass. She's the strongest physical attacker in the game, but I'd imagine if you actually forced her hitboxes to be visually accurate, things might get too obnoxious even for diehard Tifafags.

Personally, there's a lot of things I don't really like about how Tifa plays despite knowing how good she is, so I tend to stick to Cloud.

I don't think Barret would ever tolerate a deal with Rufus but I still like the idea. Also the scene where Rufus has a meeting with the Shinra brass and he calls them out for enabling his father's stupid ass ideas was fantastic

I liked Remake but Rebirth kinda sucked all around. While Remake mostly improved on the original, Rebirth straight up downgrades most sections it covers, especially Shinra Manor, Gongaga being stretched when it was just a pit stop, Dyne's death, the Midgarsormr, the fucking Costa del Sol forced minigames... and the whole thing is so incredibly padded out with Chadley bullshit.
Plus the story changes didn't really go anywhere interesting so it just feels like they're shitting on the story for no reason but to generate controversy at this point.
