i'm playing this game because everyone says the shooting is fun. i understand its weak in rpg terms and its mostly meant to be a fun looter shooter. but the shooting kinda sucks. the game mostly just gives you these shitty pipe weapons that feel really weak. and thats the ammo that most enemies are carrying so you'll be using it a lot. most of the guns feel like crap to shoot, its like they still want you to use VATS even though its supposedly supposed to feel good without it. and they made automatic weapons weaker so the game steers you toward using shitty semi auto weapons

Until you get an explosive auto of any kind, and then just shrug because you solved the game.
It's ironic that an explosive minigun is hands-down the I Win button in 4, and then 76 can't make a minigun good at all.

Because it has good shooting IN COMPARISON to its direct predecessor Fallout 3 which has shooting so fucking bad that it borders on being a joke. Even New Vegas added iron sights, skill-based weapon sway while using the sights and alternate ammo types for more variety. It really is too bad that Fallout 4's weapons are all so butt ugly.

There's effectively like 4 weapons in the game that aren't pipes and aren't indistinguishable machine guns that feel identical. The bullets follow rhe and the crosshair unlike 3 which apparently makes it a top tier shooter to the average moron.

You'll be drowning in other ammo types when you hit level 20 and invest in Scrounger (which you should).
FO4's shooting is still stiff in comparison to proper FPS games, but at least you can reliably hit the broad side of a barn now with the scopes and iron sights.

“Fallout 4 has good shooting” was a meme that started when the game initially released because it was god-tier compared to the awful shooting in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. For some reason, this opinion still persists. I don’t think it’s a bad game, btw. I’ve played through it three times (one vanilla playthrough when the game released and two afterwards, both modded). Gun mods help a lot. There’s only a handful of guns I actually like in the vanilla game, one being The Deliverer. Anyway, go to Nexus Mods if you want better guns.

best gameplay is melee. Get the do power attack in any direction mod and run around shooting up jet and slicing your way through downtown boston without using VATS

When you shoot the zombies in the legs and it comes off the fun switch is activated in my brain. Other than that I don't remember notable improvements over the previous ones

Homemade Rifle with good parts is a death laser. Never use semiauto guns except Gauss rifle or shotguns. Automatic weapon + headshots = win. If you can't hit headshots, get Chemist perk and use Jet. Buy leather armor chest in Diamond City that comes with biomesh mod that increases duration of chems.

this game depends way too much on modding weapons. taking intelligence and gun nut perk is basically mandatory for the game to be fun at all.
