I hated this so fucking much, its the most basic way to make gameplay possible (fucking pong is more complex), just stepmania simon says... 80% of the battle outcome is just pressing button on time in a fucking strategic jrpg, it undermines every aspect of forward thinking and preparation in rpg. I hate parry slop shoved for no reason so much.

You can. There's a video of a guy doing it. It's pretty gimmicky at the start, but eventually you get enough defensive stuff to turn the game into your standard turn-based game. And of course, it will be somewhat RNG. I mean, even in FF, you can party wipe just because an instant kill landed on every member.

metaphor simply chose not to use volumetric scattering, bloom and volumetric fog because they have standards.
