I’ve always subtly appreciated that /v/ cannot properly defend a new remake, sequel or reboot to any existing game. It can never stand on its own merits so people to resort to buzzwords like “the old game is outdated” or “it has old graphics and controls” or “new thing good because modern graphics.”
Stand back I'm about to invalidate your entire argument with one image

>>717394851 (OP)It's dangerous to go alone! Take this!
>>717395321/v/ doesn’t play video games
The original Seiken Densetsu 3 was one of the best of the series. It had multiplayer for online coop, it had good character choices, it had good development of skills, and it was both pretty and fun at the same time. It's the game I played the most of using ZSNES netplay.
The remake, Trials of Mana, is fascinating. The main thing about it is that it's a really good game as well, but plays nothing alike. It's actually a proper remake, as in, everything is changed enough to warrant calling it a remake, yet it's similar enough to be the same game. Being a really good game makes it good in it's own right, but it also doesn't invalidate playing the original as Seiken Densetsu 3 is a different kind of game that is also really good.
Trials of Mana is the golden standard because it resulted in two really good games where you can play both and have a great time. It's fair to like one over the other due to preferring that style of game or art more, but they are factually both great games.
>>717395321Its common knowledge that a thread being on a board where its off topic is generally better than the same kind of thread on its home board due to it being in other people who normally do not engage with the topic /here/ coming into the discussion and offering new perspectives.
However this is with the caveat that for any topic in particular it needs to be a once in a blue moon thing otherwise it just falls into the same issue on top of being off topic which some anons don't get.
Perfect example is the Ed Edd n Eddy MMO threads.
Great if given the proper time to breathe and let people come up with new ideas, but for that topic you can really only have one ever 4-6 moths or else it gets stale.
>>717395489I'll never forgive the localizers for the charlotte dialogue though.
>>717395089The reason we're seeing western animation take a nosedive is because the studios that used to make these shows are dying out. Film Roman was the studio that used to handle animation production on KoTH and many other shows, they died in 2018. Rough Draft Korea used to be the main studio western shows outsourced to but they got wise and realized they were underselling themselves and started asking for more money. Western execs didn't want to pay more so most of them fucked off to outsource to other animation studios that only really do tween animation because it's cheap.
Technically it's actually a miracle TV animation lasted at the quality it did because a lot of it was built on people underselling themselves. The shift in the economy caused that to finally collapse and what we have now is where the actual value being paid for animation sits at.
>>717395331That's because recreations are inherently bad and there's no way to to do them well.

>>717396170They're inherently bad, UNLESS they include additional content that the developers originally intended to include but didn't have enough time/money to do so the first time around. >>717394851 (OP)The C&C Remaster that came out a few years ago was fucking incredible. For all the flak I'll catch saying this I'm actually looking forward to the Dawn of War remaster because even if they aren't really doing much, the move to a 64bit engine will absolutely help with mods like Ultimate Apocalypse, performance wise. The big things they said they're focusing on is unit pathing, updating the UI for widescreen, and the actual 64bit update. Which I'm honestly fine with. They didn't need to reinvent the wheel.
Also the System Shock remake Nightdive did was good. So was the Age of Empires 2 remaster. There have been others, it isn't hard to do if the people doing it actually give a shit.
>>717404291Bobby feels great because you get the vibe he was raised well and is competent, while also keeping his creative and goofy element. Pressure from the Wassonasongs and that conflict will keep him from his potential and remind us that he's still learning how to make his way.
Saw the new season. The only characters that feel consistent are Bill, Joseph and Buck Strickland. I really hated the soccer episode, Dale kidnap Hank, and he tells him that he was a double agent working for the US government, and Dale somehow is okay with that? Did the new writers saw the old seasons? Dale hates the US government, and government workers above everything else.

>>717402327BB was a decent reboot because Bevis and Butthead were always rather one note and it's pretty hard to fuck that up. Plus, some of the situations they found themselves in were contemporary but something believable (especially how they react to them) in the broader sense and it felt like the characters were consistent from the previous iteration.
Modern KoTH feels like a completely different show than even the episodes from before Brittany Murphy's death. The characters don't act like they should, the situations are too on the nose about the moral brow-beating and most of the actors don't even sound like their characters anymore. This should not have been made at all. It's ruins the reputation of the actual show post facto and really give s it a bad look like all of the show was this poorly made and directed.
>>717402084The secret of great content creation has always been the magical, long forgotten but critical role of the "tard wrangler".
Every great creative made their masterpieces under the supervision of a tard wrangler. John Carmack, Genndy Tartakovsky, George Lucas. When unleashed, they make shit, because they don't have someone to narrow their focus and actually tell them when ideas are bad.

>>717427518So here is what is going on what that scene.
In an earlier episode Bobby hooks up with a hippie chick named Willow. Vegan, makes organic skin balm from organic materials, all that crap.
They hit off well, but that aside.
One of Bobby's loyal customers die at his restaurant and at the funeral he finds out he is the same age as Hank and that gives him a scare of not spending enough time with him. So he gets tickets to Dallas Cowboys fantasy camp with him and Willow tags along.
Willow actually shows prowess in football in that tomboy like manner, because her dad worked for the Cowboys before he was fired by Jerry Jones.
She held seething hate for that, because daddy drank to death due to being fired and thus snuck into that office to take a big fat vegan shit on the desk.
Willow is never seen again, as Bobby still has feelings for Connie and that shitshow in Jones' office really soured the mood.

>>717424290>Why does this happen?People bitch about movie remakes fucking up the original story all the time.
But to answer your question, there is a greater expectation of movies being unique and different because they are basically a smaller more momentary and shallow experience. You sit through them for a couple hours get this writers take on things and leave.
For that reason I don't give as much of a fuck if they decide to take Snow White and set it in a 2077 cyberpunk setting and have everyone shoot each other. There are already 50 versions anyway, movies are cheap and I will just turn it off or leave if it is too shit.
In comparison a video game is a much more personal interactive experience and a bigger commitment since you are looking at spending a couple days on it at the minimum. If I'm dropping 70 dollars on Minecraft 2 I expect to get an overall experience similar to Minecraft and not an RTS horror game. If I'm buying a remake of a game i'm buying it specifically for that experience not to see the directors and actors quirky new take on things.

Just got done watching the beer episode, honestly I got choked up at the end starting from when Hank recited his rhetoric to the judge; I think it was a combination of seeing Hank start to go on a sincere tangent about lawns, propane, etc. the way he often did in older episodes for the first time this season, and the obvious sentiment watching him and Bobby reconcile. For a moment I felt a lot more like I was catching up with the same characters from over a decade ago.
I’m okay with the show so far. The animation’s weird, the “Hank gets an iPad” kinda jokes are there - but to be fair they already appear to be winding down. And some of the gags still hit: Joseph and Dale both getting the same idea to rig the competition, Dale busting a gut at Luke falling over trying to crush that Near Beer on his head, Joseph frontflipping into his trash bag disguise, and John Redcorn/Nancy showing up immediately after him bringing up thinly veiled affairs.
What felt like an odd miss to me was Peggy being annoyed at Bobby bringing home laundry. White moms practically beg their boys to bring laundry when they visit after moving out, it makes them feel important. For all her quirks I don’t see Peggy being in the camp of bemoaning it, I’d have sooner imagined her getting in some dumbass D Plot about one-upping some other kids’ mothers and screwin up his laundry with some special, misguided, desperate “Peggy” method

I like remakes that can stand alongside the original, rather than attempt to replace it.
Like the RE2Make. It's RE2, but with a different control scheme. It plays well enough and carries over enough to make it feel like RE2, but introduces enough to let it stand on its own. The original is still there and still an amazing game. Now you've got two great games.

>>717403338Johnny Hardwick does most of Dale's VA in the reboot, Toby Huss only did a small portion of Dale's lines. But Johnny was either already dying of cancer or just forgot how to do the voice because he sounds fucking terrible in it
>>717408039Tate is a faggot though.
>>717457217and he was the best human in the film.
Samurai Mike Haggar
>>717459076The Tate episode was funny to me because they fused the concept of him with that retard that runs the fake Navy Seal bootcamp LARP experience
>>717396506It's different for CONTAINMENT boards you inbred hillbilly faggot.
/pw/ is a containment board of a containment board
>>717394851 (OP)How come everyone with this "every remake is bad" mentality has at least 3 different certified mental illnesses?
>>717457217Don is great. When I was a teenager I got super into MMA watching tapes with my brother. We would beat the shit out of each other but because my brother was a couple of years older than me he was bigger and would always win. I saw this advertisement in the back of some magazine advertising the PREDATOR FIGHTING SYSTEM that could teach me how to fight like Don Frye. So I worked an entire summer, saving up money, and bought the complete DVD set. It was just some basic workout stuff, instructions on how to throw a punch and wrestle. The funniest part was the section on diet and nutrition where a very inebriated Don Frye spends 20 minutes talking talking about his diet when he is training for a big fight which was basically just
>Wake up>Eat a ribeye, six scrambled eggs, and drink a gallon of beer for breakfast>When you break for lunch from training you need to eat another ribeye and drink another gallon of beer>After a day of training it is important to feed your body so it can recover, so you need to eat another ribeye, and drink a pint glass of whiskey to help your muscles relaxAlso he said you were supposed to smoke at least two cigars a day, because inhaling a couple of cigars worth of smoke will help condition your lungs for endurance fighting.
I think I still have those DVDs kicking around somewhere.
>>717399321this, cartoonwatchers will slurp up anything these days
>>717459849lol what the fuck
>>717456423I feel as though this fight may have inspired a few moments in the yakuza game because holy shit they are just tearing into each other, I'd be shocked if they didn't both walk out of it with concussions
>>717459849Truly a fucking madman
>>717417167Based movie taste
>>717458901Becoming an adult does that, anon.
>>717456657>I first heard about this Andrew Tate dude on CNN so I figured he must be pretty based if he is the biggest threat to young men or whateverthis is literally how "controlled opposition" works
CNN and other media choose who they want to fight against publicly to stop you from finding out about the kinds of opposition they don't want you to see.

>>717394851 (OP)I really, really don't like how they're allowing (bleeped) swearing. It doesn't mesh with the spirit of the show at all.

>>717458630Honestly my biggest takeaway regarding Bobby is the food he cooks looks like it fucking sucks. None of it looks appetizing.
>>717460463Dude just did not give a fuck. He was making so much money in Japan and was literally drowning on jap pussy every single night for a decade. 1997 to 2006 Don Frye was living the life that every weeb dreams about while they are masturbating.
>>717426384What are you talking about? The new VA is shit and doesn't sound anything like Cleveland.
>>717408953American dad should be be the reason to sub to it, family guy as well if you are retarded, but no its not worth it right now. Wait till they get to season 3. The way the 1st season ended implies they are moving the shows direction back towards how the last few seasons of og koth were with the exception that bobby is now ome of the adult characters and everyone else is a old bag. Otherwise everything else is almost the same
>>717463630nta
"Doesn't sound anything like" is overstating it but he doesn't have nearly equivalent energy or delivery

>>717395321Sorry for the long post but for me it's because if I come to /v/ with 100% good faith on something, I will be prevented from posting.
If I want to talk about a game, it's old, not-in-the-zeitgiest, or ironically so inflamed that no thread about it will yield a good discussion. I can name them right now and I can provide screenshots: Oni, Never Second in Rome, and We. The Refugees.
If I were to make a thread on any of these, I would get soft-porn dumps, nothing/his/, or /pol/ shitfling from a game that ironically would be very enjoyable to /pol/ (your dad wasn't an ass, you have a playstation, and you can be racist. Game even has a fag cop as a voice piece on why refugees are bad. I would love to see /pol/ make memes of him).
Coupled that with disinterest in most threads (today was a pretty good baiting average, give or take. I put a picture of what I mean to give insight on an example), I'm stuck with /b/ threads for enjoyment. Otherwise I'm going to have to wait till I get a thread I like, such as Castle Crashers.

>>717394851 (OP)There are remakes that are just good games.
>>717399940Yes, it's good. Two episodes in.
Connie is the only one I think grew up and looked how I expected her to.
>>717402474Counterpoint: the main issue with open worlds in games is that developers are pussies and are scared of making traveling in them hard. I can prove this with an example
>San AndreasI see an ice car, I go to it and get in. I can cruise around the city, enjoy the sights, like I'm a tourist. I don't really need to know/understand the map much, besides maybe escape routes for cops
>Dead RisingMemorize weapon caches/food stores/survivor locations, know each canny/secret deeply not just for love of the game but in order to better complete/optimize for the game on repeat playthroughs.
I think the main issue is dynamism. Open world's get boring when they don't change. Games like Bully captivated a generation because we were playing through a school year, we even got Halloween and Christmas.

>>717406912I'm pretty sure it was all just a metajoke because they brought up how Fox "stupidly cancelled that show 15 years ago" like what they did with KOTH

KoTH was a product of its time; anything that is a product of this benighted age cannot be good by definition.
Horrible.
