and if you take beer (without hops) and distill it you get whiskey (bit more complicated than that though, whiskey uses more grains than beer typically does, but it's close enough)
and if you made a wine out of molasses and then distill it you get rum (no one drinks straight molasses wine because it's gross, magic things happen when it gets distilled)
brandy is distilled wine
and if you've heard of port, sherry, or madeira, those are wines that have had brandy added to them to increase the abv
