Theres not a single game where time-travel doesn’t feel like a hamfisted or contrived plot element.

Chrono Trigger’s time travel only works if you don’t think about it
Then again that’s true of all Square games with time travel

To be fair, it felt contrived as shit
>Elidibus swears you won't be able to do anything because he sent you there with his last fumes
>You enjoy that for 5 minutes till you're able to do shit because Emet is just broken even for Etherian Standards
>You're stated to be 1:1 to Azem even as a Lala, but none of the surviving Ascains happen to remember how they actually looked
>Your shitty Azem lie also lasts 5 minutes because Venat can just tell?
>You also seem to describe the future with enough precision that Venat doesn't fuck anything up
>They pull out of their ass that "oh when you are in the Aetherial Sea you just remember shit, for no particular reason"
I do like that both Venat and Zenos happen to ask you the same thing about enjoying life even at the face of adversity though

It feels contrived and unexplained in LiS but in a very wink-wink-nudge type of way, it indulges you to roleplay as a insecure teenage art hoe with time travel powers.

yu-no suffers a lot from narrative/gameplay separation
i think there's basically one moment in the game where he basically doesn't lose his memories from you using a gem after kaori tricks him into stealing something I remember because it was like "holy shit wait a sec so he's actually canonically meant to retain his memories after all?" when he just doesn't whenever you use a gem normally
also forcibly getting sent back to the beginning after finishing a route... kinda contrived

I should replay this it's been ten years now

I like it when it's a Groundhog Day or All You Need Is Kill style loop since it removes a lot of the wibbly wobbly timey wimey horseshit inevitable in time travel franchises where it's more easily accessible since it staves off the kind of
>well why not kill [antagonist] as a baby
arguments that never end well from a storytelling standpoint.

Dishonored 2 and that one portal mod made fun use of it if I remember right. Warframe also has it but it's more confusing there (the early version not the time loop flop). For none of these examples though is it majority part of the game. What's wrong with Prince of Persia I guess?

This thread just shows me that you have to have time travel be the main focus of the game for it to work out decently. A game can't just hamfist time travel in the middle of its plot.

In the Drifter the time travel is basically simply a respawn, but I think it's implemented pretty well in the story. I really like the game. It's this sci-fi thriller point'n'click without much of annoying puzzles.

Time travel is an inherently contrived concept because no matter what rules you set off for it, causality takes it up the ass for it to work
Anonymous No.717412295
time travel is garbage when it makes the player go back and forth in time. only time it works when it's some other character in the story doing time travel. witcher 1 has cool time travel plot element.

It was because she recognizes the blessing that makes the WoL immune to primal influence as one of her own spells, and that combined with the already shaky excuse about being Azem's familiar was enough for her to figure out some fuckery was afoot.

Outer Wilds

The time loop is integral to the game design, it's why you have a solar system that constantly evolve with time.
It's also part of the themes of the game as you are meant to explore everything you can, face your fears, then face your fear of death itself, the ultimate mystery.
