In Asian cultures Anis's behavior wouldn't make much sense and would only be seen as disgusting probably.
In western culture that can be seen as endearing or a way to challenge the viewer.
As in

>"Oh I'm a pure maiden at heart, watch where you look."Which I can imagine for many western guys can be off-putting too.
I would say this is one of the rare instances where localization actually makes sense.
