I sail IRL, though not tall ships, and I've posted before about the problems and I'm not going to rehash them again. Sailing as a game will need VR and excellent motion controls and the world's most gifted director to keep it interesting. Clicking shit on a screen and watching set pieces go by is better suited for a driving or flying game on compters or consoles. Sailing's got loads of nothing for days at a time except your own thoughts and your crew, so you've got to make the rote work of skipper/crew as engaging as possible by engaging the players tactile and body senses.

Anonymous No.717405809
>>717405653
absolutely, I've had the idea myself
have a base port where you can upgrade your boat, return items and just accept and do deliveries
and then you can set out onto an open sea with lots of islands, medium to small and some with mysteries and sekrets on them to theorybait
obviously there needs to be very good water physics with waves and big potential for "MAN OVER BOARD" to keep things spicy
the boat shouldn't be too big, but it should be big enough to house tasks for at least 4-6 people like steering, repairing, keeping the engine running/adjusting the sails depending on if you're on a sail boat or not (which could be sidegrade upgrades depending on preference)

Yeah that sucks. The golden age of piracy is my favourite era and there are so little games that try to capture that feeling of freedom and danger on the waves.

Sea of Thieves is the closest you can get to that pirate fantasy but I wish they had larger ships with 10vs10 battles and actually dangerous sailing and storms

Pretty much every relevant version of the original game is great. Gold has some serious issues and I can't recommend it. I am sadly not a diehard piratesfag and haven't played later versions so I can't speak on their behalf.

That and removing instakill melee.
And the weapon and outfit choices.
Oh and the setting.
Also it looked gorgeous.
Time to replay Unity.

Microprose pretty much ran on the Pirates! formula (which was derived from Silent Service) from that point forward. Go around on world map until an arbitrary encounter happens, then have a really awkward time shooting at each other (except everyone just rams their ship into the enemy and engages in swordfights). Then shit just kind of happens as you keep doing that. Hell, even Xcom is pirates! with a fresh paintjob if you squint hard enough.
The key to gittin gud is learning to track down the treasure fleet & silver train with peak efficiency and just keep raiding it for massive gains.

I'm a diehard piratefag and I was planning to get it despite all the negativity around it.
I watched some gameplay and saw that half the crew was female and even worse, they were constantly yelling and yapping around with no way to shut them up. Instantly ruined my pirate fantasy immersion.
Of course Ubiaoft in their retardation didn't even include a way to personalise your crew (probably on purpose).

What a game it could have been...

It doesn't turn you invisible. It just means you can hide behind lower cover than you'd be able to without it. It also slows you down so you move more quietly, but you're just as visible as you'd be standing up if somebody looks in your direction.

None of you will "get" Puzzle Pirates because you'll have to have played it as a kid. I've thought about a pirate immersive sim for a while. You make the islands a realistic distance but closeish because it's a videogame. Regardless of if it's a sort of mmo or singleplayer, you balance the game around having SOMETHING to do in the downtime on your ship. Make it minigames just like Puzzle Pirate. If you do the minigame it speeds up/improves the part of the ship it's touching like bilging or trimming the sales. Put a poker table on the ship and have it connect to an online game.

The only games worth mention are Sea Dogs and AssCreed Odyssey, both have shanties while you sailing, bonus points to AC because they have female crew and they too sing shanties.
