What was this game even about, I remember the plots for Sands of Time and Two Thrones clearly but this one is a blur

Only in the true ending.

To expand on this, traveling in time has send a time monster after him, so he goes to the island where time travel got invented/started with the goal of stopping the sands of time from being created. He accidentally kills the empress in the past which unleashes the sands of time, making him the one who created all this trouble. So he goes back in time, but using the wraith mask this time so there are two of him, then he goes back in time while already back in time thanks to the wraith mask to stop himself from killing the empress in the past. Then he tricks the empress into going into the present so he can kill here there so there were never any sands of time in the past so he couldn't have time travelled so the monster should stop chasing him. He just kills her in the normal ending but in the true ending, since the empress in the present and never died in the past, that means there should be no sands of time and it shouldn't be possible for her to be there, it makes the time monster chase her, but the prince goes all white knight and kills the monster to save her. Which is useless since she gets killed right at the start of the next game and that unleashes the sands once again, this time right at the capital city of Persia, so the normal ending is actually the good one.

I remember my mother buying me this game when I was like 8 and her jaw dropping to floor when this happened

It's a really shame I didn't get to play WW as a teenager. At my age I just can't take its edginess seriously.

I like the game but I don't like the style, far too edgy, the first game was miles better in that department.
It's supposed to be a made-up tale that could fit inside the One Thousand and One stories from Scheherazade

Gameplay-wise WW is vastly superior to SoT. The only reason anyone didn't like it was purely MUH BRIGHT COLORS AND BLOOM AND CUT BROWN WAIFU

Prince 1: Best platforming and horrible combat.
Prince 2: Best combat and mid platforming.
Prince 3: Mid combat and mid platforming.
Why couldn't they actually make a game with great platforming and combat?

Hardest game to complete because of crashes and bugs I ever played.
Had it on PC as a kid and the game would just CTD every time the Dahaka appeared, preventing me from progressing.
Got a new PC a bit later and managed to get to the Sand Wraith section but then I couldn't transform back and didn't have another save so got blocked.
Never completed it until during Covid when I finally went back and beat it.
Then replayed it last year on a PS2 for the first time, got to the very end of the game where a time portal takes you to the final boss and the portal just didn't work lol. Tried my previous two saves and still didn't work - had to load one from just past halfway through the game to manage to get it to work

Put hundreds of hours into it as a kid, I know everything about it by heart, including dialogs, trap placements and rhythms, artwork chests and where to find all weapons for the gallery
