I know this website is full of posers, but I remember many people struggling at certain parts of the game, especially once they hit Bastoria.
This is overall, though, not a game that you want to play for the challenge. Be creative, test varied units and gear out, have fun with suboptimal compositions. I don't get where this obsession with "solving the game" comes from. This is a wonderful game for a myriad of reasons and if you judge it purely by its difficulty, then that's your own personal problem.

Two words completely ruin the game:

Battle preview.

It destroys the need for strategy and understanding the combat system.

The reason it exists is because swapping two characters in your formation can completely change a battle outcome from total loss to no damage. And not just for obvious shit like “don’t put the healer in front”, sometimes it’s nonsense like your swordsman needed to stand the the right of your cavalier instead of to the left. Or maybe you want the sorcerer up front just this once because he procs some evade check. It results in the player shuffling their formations around constantly.

Yeah, Ridiels quote was one of the first things I saw about this game's elves. I think it's a dumb cliché to have always only female elf x human man, and Japan is especially guilty of this. Don't take jokes about nuking Japan too seriously, though. It's a joke. I don't have a problem with this pairing happening, as long as it happens both ways, and the speargirls falling for random elf guys is just funny to me. And gives me shitposting ammunition against muh human dick niggerposting.
