I generally prefer Cygames' approach, since I know exactly how many times I need to roll in order to get what I want. At the same time I'll be getting other stuff I like and there's actually a good chance of the other SSRs I roll of being the rateup character or card. That said, like you said, the problem with this system is that you can't really roll unless you have the carats for 200 draws, so you'll have to sit on your stash until you get the required amount. No meme limiteds makes it easily worth for me, but still.

Dunno. Apparently the guy was a streamer and was probably emploeyd. In any case, he spent like 6000€ worth of money to get this one character. Along the way he rolled the other two rateup characters multiple times, so it was quite obvious the rateups were "fixied" by Cygames. This became somewhat of a scandal and nowadays it's mandatory to disclose the rateup percentages in these games and provide a guaranteed way to get what you want.
This (and possibly some other events) also lead to some other intresting things for Japanese gacha. In general the devs are not allowed to nerf anything that players have payed for, whether through gacha or direct means. This means that if you happen to accidentally release something really broken (say, Kitasan Black) you are not allowed to nerf it – unless you refund every roll in real money, if I'm not mistaken. And even in that case the players may be able to keep what they rolled for. This means that the only way to fix an overpowered character or item is to powercreep it eventually or tactfully skirt around the issue and indirectly nerf it in some way.

There are girls and cards. This is a bit like a card game. The girl matters less than the card meta speaking, so you can play whoever you want as long as your cards are good. The girls are more like "roles". You have 2 terrains, 4 distances, and your girls are able to run in these or not(there are some exceptions that can run in any track though)

You can raise your girl to run in other tracks, or run better in certain tracks and distances. Some stats matter more in certain distances(short tracks are better with speed, long tracks are better with stamina, etc)

Cards give you stats and skills. Then your girls use those in races. The point eventually will be to race against others in a PVP, with your girls and deck of cards. The girls also come with unique skills of their own, which tell you more or less how they would like to be "used"(some have buffs for certain distances, some have ultimates that only activate when you are on front, some have skills that debuff enemies,etc)

It's deep game. but the point is. roll for cards first to make the game useable, then roll for the girls you like once the game is playable. There is a banner in like a week where another extremely good card will be featured, so you can roll for that one(Super Creek), borrow the other one from a friend(Kitasan MLB), then use some good Gold cards(which you should get when rolling for Creek), then the game is playable and you can do whatever you want(roll for your favorite grills). The game also gives you free tickets for some 3 star girls when you complete your beginner missions, so you can have some girl variety

Does anyone else miss when races actually had some challenge in the earlier scenarios? Honestly, I'm actually having fun with Global because winning races isn't a guarantee. Hell, even though MANT was ass, it felt more fulfilling to get a good run than the past couple scenarios we've had.
Granted, I really liked the challenge of going up against Montjeu in l'Arc. And Almond Eye had that final boss feeling as well. But the only challenge in DYI feels like rolling dice for rainbows. (Although you could argue the entire game is just dice rolling).
