Good, because it's a shit genre where insufferable grind and padding, shallow excuse for gameplay, trivial story or a complete lack of it, repetitive and boring quests and subpar graphics are somehow excused just by the existence of the massively multiplayer aspect. They're just mind numbing time sinks that turn entertainment into a job with specks of enjoyment sprinkled in a mound of shit and bore.
They're games in which you do stuff you really don't enjoy doing for a occasional short lasting glimmer of satisfaction when a number goes up.

MMOs require too much time investment.

It’s a genre from 2000 A.D. where titles like PSO, EverQuest and FFXI solidified the grind, and WoW popularised it. It takes weeks to do things to completion in MMOs.

The reason gacha games have replaced MMOs is because of the time investment. The 8 hours grind of the MMO drops down to 10 minutes, and all the story and worthwhile content is condensed down as well, because developers aren’t bloating out content to fill an $80 expansion; it’s instead a quick patch with 2 hours of story and a mini game mode, which is what all MMO release cycles boiled down to (see Plunder storm).

MMOs have already been replaced. You just have to look at the charts to see everyone playing Wuthering Waves and Honkai Star Rail, while WoW and XIV are struggling to retain people long term.
