You would have to mod it because games have become stupidly expensive for GC. Get a backwards compatible Wii and hack it instead. You get to play Wii and VC games too plus component cables don't cost an arm.

No native GC controller and memory card support. And Wii Us are $100+ and some of them self destruct due to bad eMMC modules. Wiis go for pennies, it's the best bang for buck if you're interested in Nintendo games and want real hardware. The only cool feature the Wii U has that would make me pick it over a Wii is DS games, it's nice to play on your tv and use the gamepad as the lower screen.

Been there, done that. I quit buying games around 2020 when the prices got too high. Nowadays all that gathers dust and I emulate everything. Now I actually play games rather than tweaking my setup and repairing consoles.
