While couch coop and splitscreen multiplayer is pretty much dead. It's time to admit that multiplayer is in a much better place than it was. I've been to my fair share of LAN parties and while they were fun. I remember how hot the rooms would get and how we often had to splitscreen which fucking sucked as you could barely see what was going on since you had to sit back. Now I still game with the same people but we all can just relax at home while playing.

i started playing BG3 with a friend lately.
I haven't played a real multiplayer game with voice coms for years. It was fun to try and joke around about the game and play it socially.
The one thing is that its definitely a totally different experience to playing solo where I'm focusing on the story and trying to play the game seriously.
I can't totally hate the friendslop genre anymore.

If you like mmos, try turtlewow, it made me enjoy multiplayer again. The community is pretty friendly and theres a good mix of totally new players and oldheads. I'm honestly surprised a server like it with as much original content and effective rmt prevention exists in 2025

I generally don't enjoy multiplayer but there's at least one game per year that I play with friends, the difference between then and now is that we don't have the time or will to play the same game together for five year straight. We're playing Abiotic right now, we will beat this game 100% and then we will finish it, be done. We will play together again later, when there's another game that catches everyone's interest.

Get on the game's public Discord and you'll have all the answers to your questions answered within seconds. For everything else, there's probably a wiki article for it.

Twitch celebs and E-sports obsession killed the casual aspect of multiplayer games ; everything must be optimized, metaslaving, etc. FaggotStreamer420 said X and Y were the best things ever so that's what every fucking wannabe pro faggots will do or use.
