Sky 3rd is so boring it killed my hype and momentum and have been procastrinating the game for 6 years.
I don't even remember most of Sky 2nd's plot anymore, so if I wanted to get back into the game I would probably need to restart from the beginning and fuck that.

It's not that 3rd is offensively bad, but it has a really uninteresting premise and focuses on the gameplay way more, which is honestly the worst part of those games. It's super slow and boring as all fucks.

Calvard is heavily based on France, and as a French dude I can tell you that there were initially racial tensions after the war in Algeria. Admittedly the Spanish immigrants from Franco's time and the italians had it way worse and integrated much better, but like all games Trails tend to exaggerate a bit. I do wish we had seen the other side of the coin, like in CS3 when we're essentially on the side of the nobles.

Regardless, if you see it as a story loosely based on historical events rather than a modern day commentary then it's not really that offensive. Still a disappointing pair of games with a shitty story though.

JPN across the board. Sky only really had english va for battles, and the entire script was voiced in Japanese so thats an easy pick right there. Crossbell didnt even get english va so not even a choice to be had there. And the later arcs have a really bad habit of having dialogue sequences where not everyone is voiced, or frequently changes between voiced and non-voiced mid-cutscene, which I find extra jarring when everyone is speaking in my own language.

Not trails, but falcom. I got Lacrimosa of Dana last weekend and the gameplay is like fuckin crack its so good. The plot, however, is so painfully, excrutiatingly boring in the way that its presented. I fast forward through everything, because every line of dialogue is vapid superfluous bullshit delivered in slow motion. I remember starting to speed through text in trails in the sky before I dropped that, which really defeats the purpose of playing a long, winding turn based rpg. How does falcom manage to make such terribly boring stories and presentation? Its an achievement, really. It seems like it would easier to not write and record so much bloated, pointless anime yapping.

Ys was never meant to have longwinded plots or anything like that. Ys works better when it plays like "popping bubblwrap" that was the way they described the original game. Dana has some great gameplay that harkens back to that concept, and probably the best soundtrack in the series, but the story can be entirely skipped.

Falcom was getting too high on their own supply and wanted every game to feel like Trails. The next game is even worse about this and play worse too.
