Dual 3090s work fine but if I disable eco mode and run with pbo on my 3900x (and a gt 710), I get random tab/application crashes and sometimes blue screen. A faulty cpu would more catastrophic right? And memory's good.

Idk, I was looking at it using the graphs/ max min at 100ms before. Everything ran fine when I did synthetic stress tests max loading the cpu and 3090 for two hours. It's a 1300w from gigabyte (not one of the ones that explode). It's only when I leave it idling overnight that I wake up to find it's restarted. Or if I'm watching youtube sometimes the tab will crash.

If you're getting ntoskrnl bsods while watching YouTube but not under full load it sounds like a driver issue to be honest. Everything is hw accelerated these days aka using your GPU. If you disable it in your browser it will force it to your CPU. This should stop crashing on the GPU driver side but if it still happens then its related to CPU/RAM/SSD.

If you're really hell bent on a 3060, get the 12gb variant of the non-ti version, but if you want a decent upgrade, a 16gb gpu should be seen as the bare minimum for quality 1080p pc gaming nowadays, so either go 5060ti 16gb version or rx 9060xt 16gb version.

Yeah that's what I thought too when I saw the minidumps. Chkdsk/scannow. Full reinstall of windows. Windows 10. Windows 11. Windows 10 iot ltsc. Debian. Installing on sata even. Updating nvidia drivers... ddu downgrading nvidia drivers. Bios up and down. Rebuilding the entire computer in case something didn't connect properly. The only thing that helped was the eco mode and turning off pbo. Is it perhaps the modtherboard that's fucky? Borrowing a 5500 didn't exhibit the same problems, so that's why I'm thinking it's a power problem.

My prediction is either gaming with consoles or AI workloads will move the needle for more VRAM within the next 2-3 years. Like putting entire scenes into GPU memory for direct raytracing. Running entire destructable physics sims. Lazy devs using up entire 4K textures for a barrel.

VRAM for consumer home AI setups because of Intel/AMD competition NVIDIA will finally have to move up the VRAM some more too because it'll be a battle of devs opting for and changing their code to be GPU-agnostic for more VRAM.

Being poor is a never ending struggle.
Every computer i have had has been built going strictly for what is the best bang for my money, i could deviate from that a 5% as max before i would decide against whatever other choice.
I would like for my next build to be able to spend a couple hundred € more on it just on shit that might not be the most optimal but might be slightly more powerful, slightly better temps, etc
But my caveman brain doesn't allow me to do that. Every build i have made has been the most spartan min maxed mid range build you can think of.

You're not wrong about AMD featureset being weaker but I don't agree with the Optiscaler part - we are PC users. Taking 2 minutes to download a program and enable it and tick a box before turning on your game should not be difficult for any PC user with an IQ above 80.
