They're doing this because Windows 10 is going to go out of regular support this upcoming October, and Windows 11 has TPM 2.0 and Secureboot as an official requirement. Which means they can slap this on any new titles with impunity; and probably will slap it onto existing titles at some point as well, using the argument that they can't continue supporting a dead OS.

It's going to be very interesting though, how all the kernel-mode anti-cheats are going to cope with things once Microsoft decides to gate off the Windows kernel to them, like they're already doing with security products like anti-virus and corporate intrusion-detection solutions since the whole thing with Crowdstrike.
