This whole "system A kills system B" is propaganda to make you do marketing for free.
It's propaganda that exists since the 80's and you still fall for it.

In reality people just buy what appeals to em, and if the console failed is not because some opponent defeated it, but just because it had nothing of value to begin with (or bad marketing).
