Depends on the game.
If you're playing World, then I honestly don't even remember bowgun in base game. Just that elemental was good in Iceborne with the Alatreon gun. Lunastra's gun I think was also good for Ice/Fire. Safi Aquashot for Water/Sticky/Pierce 2 and Frostfang Barioth for Spread.

I've only touched it a little for Wilds but since spread and pierce have infinite ammo now, Rey Dau's is pretty good for pierce and I've enjoyed using spread with Seregios' gun.

Just run around the monster in circles and keep shooting until it's dead. Other than ammo management, it's pretty braindead.

different bowguns have different ammo capacities and even firing rates (single load, semi-auto, and burst) per ammo type.
So depending on which ammo type you want to primarily use you may need to switch which LBG you're using.
