maybe movies realized the problem and has tried to have an established culture of promoting odd and independent films (not as an industry but as a culture)
so i feel like there are some film makers who still make weird or interesting shit
it helps that directors who make weird shit occasionally get picked up by bigger studios to work on big projects
for other mediums i feel like the issue is almost that the barrier to entry is too low
any retard with gamemaker can churn out some dogslop and post it on steam for $100
any retard with a typewriter can make a book
any retard with the ability to pirate flstudio and churn out some shitty album
you can say any retard with a smartphone can "make" a film but you still need people to act for however long, need to do reshoots, you need to write a script, etc.
the amount of effort involved for something that looks like the media you're trying to make is higher than "import a template"
