Most mediums suffer from this, they're exciting and creative when they're young and stuff is still getting figured out, they progressively they get more and more "solved" and become soulless. Video games, internet, sports, chess etc etc

Nah, games feel way better these days. More to do, deeper gameplay, much more longevity, much more investment (look how long Factorio and Minecraft and World of Warcraft have been in development and enhanced).

Even old games I used to play have been re-imagined and way better. Escape Velocity is now Star Sector. Sim City 2000 is now Cities Skylines. And then Battlefield 6 is around the corner and is like a massive evolution from Counter Strike back in 2000.

maybe movies realized the problem and has tried to have an established culture of promoting odd and independent films (not as an industry but as a culture)
so i feel like there are some film makers who still make weird or interesting shit
it helps that directors who make weird shit occasionally get picked up by bigger studios to work on big projects

for other mediums i feel like the issue is almost that the barrier to entry is too low
any retard with gamemaker can churn out some dogslop and post it on steam for $100
any retard with a typewriter can make a book
any retard with the ability to pirate flstudio and churn out some shitty album

you can say any retard with a smartphone can "make" a film but you still need people to act for however long, need to do reshoots, you need to write a script, etc.
the amount of effort involved for something that looks like the media you're trying to make is higher than "import a template"

It's not because they get "solved", it's because corpos see potential for big money in the medium, takes it over and fills it with the most low-risk high reward content they can create. As technology advances the risk factor decreases further along with quality, since now instead of paying stunt doubles and building sets or going to places to film and being at the mercy of randomness, they can spend 1/10th of the money and just use a green screen. The best part? corpos will tell normies that the newer tech makes movies cost 10x more so the tickets have to cost 10x more, and even though it's a blatant lie cattle will eat it up.

For many early indie devs, video games were just a hobby. They were not relying on the income from the game.
NuIndie devs drop out of school and quit their jobs and take out bank loans to fund their "dream game", which in reality is just trying to believe that if they hit the right gameplay loop, they'll make Minecraft-tier money and be set for life.

Its goal is for it to make money, they just got better and better at squeezing it out of you.
