When I play space games, I always use ships that look like Vic Viper.
>>717440223 (OP)you are not a 60 year old japanese man
What's the veredict on Salamander III?
>>717440946why would a space ship need wings
>>717441998I've been doing nothing but watching shmup videos lately so the youtube algorithm thinks I am one. You think this will let me dodge the ID check?
>>717440223 (OP)have the games been enhanced or is just MAME ?
Anyone got a nsp/xci link?
>>717442168Looks too much like a remix of the first game IMO.
https://youtu.be/-FL7mJrkWJY?si=X7klypY8xk8zTgxn
I'll still play it someday. Although gradius III AM version interests me more.
>>717442221That's M2 for (you). Either wait for the sale or pirate
>>717442594There is a new Salamander game.
The rest, you can just emulate I guess.
man Nighstriker OST is so good !
Gradius is super expensive tho wtf
>>717446989Only the first 2 levels, Then we get the first gradius stage, moais and some other unique ones.
I'm still annoyed as shit the collection does include IV, V and gaiden.
What is it with Konami and hiding playstation games?
>>717446989What the fuck already? who could possibly do a multiloop clear of a game that just releas-
Oh it's jam ears, carry on. Pretty impressive, genuinely how does something like that even happen this quickly? I know the guy is a massive shmup autist but man.
>>717446989>gradius III AM versionyeah... so far no one has explained what that even is, but they say its very special or something. does anybody know?
Oh shit, I played Space Gun in the arcade. Neat, but I don't see a point playing a light gun game with a mouse. It's like playing DDR with a gamepad or keyboard.
>>717449741>I don't see a point playing a light gun game with a mousegood question how are you supposed to play these games ? There has to be something more than just using your mouse. The steam page shills the "Cyber Stick intelligent controller" but it's a 200โฌ contraption that doesn't look very good either...
Replace Nintendo with Konami and Taito
>Gray Layer
Isn't this the beta version of Jade Knight from Gradius Gaiden? Whats the difference?
>>717440223 (OP)Yuzo Koshiro released a shmup too on July.
https://bravewave.bandcamp.com/track/terminal-doctrine
>>717440223 (OP)I already got Gradius origins, weird how they're releasing Operation Night Strikes simultaneously.
Kind of wish there was only an option to get Night Strikers stand alone - also shame they didn't port the Sega Saturn version.
>>717440223 (OP)Salamander III is pretty good.
>>717449737A prototype version of Gradius 3 with major differences from the final game. There's a God Mode included due to how bullshit hard this version is compared to the final version.
>>717452121i just want to know when is NightStriker Gear getting released,
that game is looking awesome, but so far theres no definite release date other than '2025'.
>>717454340thanks... it does sound like that version was dumped anyway at some point or something if people know said differences?
>>717454561>i just want to know when is NightStriker Gear getting releasedright after aleste branch
>>717454561>it does sound like that version was dumped anyway at some point or something if people know said differences? It was never dumped. M2 managed to find the PCB inside Konami's archives by accident. The only major difference known so far is the desert stage, which is completely different from the final game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2mBaTEjmVE&t=177s
Also, M2 has teased that the infamous cube section from the game is even worse and far more difficult than the final version. The reason they included God Mode is because of this section alone.
I want to buy the Gradius collection but I simply love Night striker yet the rest of the operation night striker pack doesn't look very interesting (how does it fare with mouse control ?) so here I am, can't choose...
>>717449349Blame Konami for being retards with pricing
>>717456469unfortunately the gradius pricing is LESS retarded than operation night striker
BOOMERS OUTEE WIDDAY GRADY AHH GAME
watched a stream earlier, listing notable stuff off the top of my head
>jade knight is an unlockable ship in salamander 3
>salamander 3 looks hard as fuck
>AM is unfinished and ends at stage 7, the cube stage
>the cube stage has a unique crystal themed boss instead of a core ship
>the bubble stage has a second space section in between bubble themed terrain
>the plant stage resembles the gieger-esque stage from gradius 2 at first before being fully overtaken by plants
>the underground section of the volcano stage is very simplified and doesn't have its own music
>>717440223 (OP)Already own Night Striker S for my Sega Saturn, no need to buy this. Though I WILL buy M2's Night Striker Gear when it comes out, physically if possible.
>>717440223 (OP)why are all spaceships always designed like a boat when there's no up or down in space? Isn't the bottom half of every spaceship basically wasted space?
>>717457280Anything about the cube section?
i 1cc'd salamander 3 on my second attempt. i was hoping it would be a little tougher than haunted castle revisited, but whatever.
>>717455061This guy clearly didn't play Gradius 3 because the 'sand dragon' was used as the boss for the fire stage.
>>717440223 (OP)>new gradius :)>it's a literal asset flip remix of 40 year old content :(Why bother making a thread. We all know how to use emulators.
>>717440223 (OP)>no rastan+cadash collection>no cameltry>darius collection is 50 bucksfuck squareenix-owned taito
>>717458650Memorization is half of it. Keeping your cool when things don't go pixel-perfect movement and NOT CHOKING is the other half.
>>717458650The best shmups are the ones that hit the sweet spot where there's memorization involved but just some muscle memory and pure skill will get you through.
>>717440223 (OP)Is there a light gun accessory for PC?
>>717459178PC fags just looking for another excuse to steal games.
Shame they didn't include Gradius Rebirth but whatever, it's good enough that they made Salamander 3.
Not really sold on Night Strikers because of the scummy DLC from M2. Reminds me of Mushi Futari situation, they ported it to Xbox 360 but made 1.01 and Black Label fucking DLC for already full price release, meanwhile Espgaluda 2, made in-house by Cave had all of its content and even more game modes on the 360 with zero DLC. M2 were always greedy jews.
>>717442168Solid shmup, pretty satisfied. Gets pretty funny on loop 4 onwards
>all cheevos let you use savestates and rewind to get them
lame
>>717460846>cheevosWhat goofy ass cereal is that?
No gaiden no buy-den
No five no buy-ve
>>717461187Yeah, same boat. Hell, if they just released Gaiden or V on their own, I'd double dip. (I own them on PS1 and PS2 respectively)
I really wish M2's Aleste Collection included Super, MUSHA, and Robo. That game was stingy but I bought it mostly for GG Aleste 3.
>>717460846That has been a thing since forever in every M2STG collection.
>>717442168It certainly is more Salamander. It has some pretty tough areas but the generous amount of lives coupled with how deaths work kind of evens it out. A 1cc shouldn't be too hard. Vic Viper is probably the best ship. Can't speak for everyone but I really enjoy it.
>>717464790Yup

>>717465092Cavetards are the speedrunners of the shmup community.
>>717465092How much time did you spend on the game and are you using your own route?
>>717465363They are both mentally ill and love to play the shittiest games with the shittiest game designs.
>>717465437Combining the hours I have from the Switch and PC, about 100+ hours, and my Ultra PB is Aki tlb with a little amount of hp. Most of the routes are taken from many replays that I lwatch and study, but some are of my own. The execution of these routes is important, however
>>717465828Yeah, that's exactly the same normal behavior of a tranny speedrunner.
>>717465532>love to play the shittiest games with the shittiest game designs. From what would you compare CAVE games to something superior in your opinion?
And what does that superior game do better than a CAVE one?
>>717466328So, actively improving on a game is tranny behaviour?
>>717466471All Cave are the same kind of shit, the same kind of ugly and the same kins of cringefest. Sorry if you wasted hundreds of hours in them.
>>717465828I only asked if the routes were your own because I think that takes considerably more time unless you're someone like Jaimers.
And are you using the cheese strat or are you trying to dodge the final pattern of the TLB?
>>717466581>All Cave are the same kind of shit, the same kind of ugly and the same kins of cringefestReally? Is Dangun Feveron the same as Progear for example? Dodonpachi with Ibara?
>>717466650>And are you using the cheese strat or are you trying to dodge the final pattern of the TLB?The cheese strat. I'm not dodging that shit, and extra points for the cheese strats because is pretty fun when you pull it off
>>717442289Planetary landings? The US space shuttle was basically a massive glider.
>>717440223 (OP)Is it? I thought Gradius Origins was supposed to drop tomorrow.
>>717466861Usually I'd be against cheesing but the difficulty spike in the final pattern is so absurd that I'd do the same.

input lag testing for each game
Pretty great overall, although I find it very strange that Salamander III is at 3~4 frames
>he doesn't appreciate all shmups despite their flaws.
>No NES version of Gradius and Gradius 2
>No SNES version of Gardius 3
>No Gradius IV, V or Gaiden
Why is Konami hiding IV in particular? It hasn't gotten an archive archive version either.
>>717466328 Imagine gatekeeping bullet hells like you're defending some ancient monastery. Bro, people wanna git gud at dodging death confetti, not prove they're manly for learning a boss route. Let people enjoy playing games hard enough to turn your brain into soup.
>>717468757>>No NES version of Gradius and Gradius 2I get that G3 is bullshit to the point westerners only want to play the easier snes version, but I have no idea why you'd want the nes version of G1 and 2 unless you're just a tendie. The arcade versions are already fairly easy and if you really wanted a home version included, the PCE and MSX versions both have a bunch of cool additions, and visual enhancements in the case of the PCE version. All the NES versions do is remove stuff.
>>717470793Yes I just got my first shitclear in 2hu UFO. I normally veer towards dadshmups and CAVE + some non-2hu doujin stuff, so this is pretty new for me. I remember finding the series way less fun desu.
>>717468757>Why is Konami hiding IV in particular?M2 confirmed in an interview that they didn't had time to include the game before launch, plus emulating a game running on PowerPC hardware being a nightmare to run on their own emulator (and before anyone mentions Gradius III and IV and the PSP collection, those weren't handled by M2)
>>717448426Considering Salamander 2 sucked; I'd bet 3, made decades later, is awful.

Now THIS is a real โshoot-em-up!โ Not like that DingDongwhatchi CRAP... just more cookie-cutter, boring โshots-everywhereโ junk to BORE me to TEARS, sorry. Last one of these new games I tried was Ikaragaโฆ Sorry! but I learned to play color-matching games when I was two, donโt need to do it anymore! Deleted THAT computer application from my Dell desktop after about 20 minutes.
R-Type, Gradius, Dariusโฆ those classics are a little more up MY alley. No TINY hitboxes to make the game look harder than it is, no half-naked japanimation cartoon girls, no gimmicky scoring to cover up the total lack of any real substanceโฆ just a little thing called good old-fashioned GAMEPLAY that seems to be forgotten nowadaysโฆ yep, I love all the super-duper powerups, and checkpoints.. yes recovery is HARD but not IMPOSSIBLE. You actually have to put in a little elbow grease to get your strength back! Something the little ones today could stand to learn from, if you ask me! They seem to want games where you can kill everything on the screen with one button press, right after inserting a coin! Instant gratification with no challenge for the participation-trophy generation. And personally, I usually prefer a โside-viewโ kind of shooter compared to a โbirdโs eye viewโ one, all those obstacles give levels a lot more personality, not such a common thing when every me-too game wants to look and play the same.
Me, Iโve been playing a lot of R-Type part two lately. I can only clear a couple of boards on my first man right now. I may wear out my joystick before I can manage my one quarter win! But I donโt quit! What can I say, I prefer a little hard work to getting a free handout! Playing some Wings of Wor on my Sega too, and Bio-Hazard Battle. Great vintage stuff!

>doesn't include Gradius 4, the only one you can't emulate on original hardware
>includes 1-3, Life Force, and Salamander 2; which can be emulated on original hardware well
>doesn't include any Parodius games, regardless of emulatabilitismosity
It's like Konami's ashamed of their only good games.
>>717480612Parodius is considered its own thing tbf
That said, it doesn't change the fact that konami themselves made a better gradius selection games over 10 years ago on the goddamn psp
