Why are there so few games that let you play as the villain?
>inb4 ww2 games
yeah really funny and creative post, but seriously why are there so few games that let you play as the bad guys?

Pretty narrow demographic. Parents will not see that box and want to buy it for their kid.

Adults only eclipsed kids in the market this side of the millenium. To keep it all audiences you kind of have to keep the villains camp. Dungeon Keeper was honestly the darkest I remember those kinds of games getting if you listened to all the post-mission flavor.

Why can I immediately think of many games that let you be evil?

because you are thinking of RPGs
But even those are comparatively goody two shoes nowadays.

Because just like how most people will never pick a non-human looking race and only pick humans and elves, most people prefer to play a game where they are a goody-goody two-shoes instead of an evil villain.

Because writing "villains" and their story requires actual nuance and skill. The one thing no commifornia diversity hire has.

Isn't the Dungeon series the successor of Dungeon Keeper?

I played Dungeons 2 and 3. It is very similar but even better.

Yeah but part of the appeal of games is doing stuff you *can’t* do IRL without ending up on a watchlist or a true crime podcast. Everyone’s got that little goblin in their brain that wants to explode a church or torment peasants. The problem is devs think “being evil” means cackling while you wear skulls and micromanage tax increases. Give me a game where I slowly become a tyrant through small, reasonable decisions. Not cartoon villainy, just practicality gone rotten.

Woah, I haven't played Dungeons but I didn't expect the games to be better than the Dungeon Keeper games. You barely hear about Dungeons, after all
