I do. I enjoyed all three main campaigns in SC2. I disliked the epilogue mini campaign because the story went dogshit.

That's why he was to invade Auir, but he also had like a back door into his brain for Xel'naga to hijack him or something. So he made Kerrigan as a replacement specifically to fuck over the whole lol free army. That's why Duran has you collecting the relics in wings of liberty to make Kerrigan killable. It's a little hard to catch because all the mobius and hybrid stuff is mission dialogues on relatively involved missions or in the novels.

While I think the first idea is fine, I also like the premise where the Overmind realized he was a pawn in someone else's game and was looking for a loophole or an out.

Mechanically, it's pretty different, though it does have a few similarities. Rather than having a single building and worker dedicated to extracting a single type of resource, your main base building is surrounded by resources, two of which are plentiful and one of which is not, the latter being used to buy more advanced units and structures. Also, rather than buildings costing energy to maintain functionality, there's a supply system. You create depots/pylons/overlords to enhance your available supply to support more units on the field, with the maximum supply being 200. More advanced units cost more supply, naturally.

I've always had a fascination with RTS games but I was always too intimidated by them to actually try them. I've been watching pro SC2 matches on and off for some time and there's a specific ex-pro turned youtuber I watch semi-regularly. I've been thinking about finally giving SC2 a proper go but I don't know if it would be worth the effort at this point.

Comparing yourself to the professional players is going to get you intimidated easy. Just jump into it. If anything, play the campaign first to get to know what you're doing, then try some coop. The game is pretty fun when you're working WITH other people rather than against them. Hell, set up a match against bots so you can get to know each faction's strengths and weaknesses. And if you do want to focus on competitive, just dive in and give it a go. Sure, you'll lose a lot, but you'll be matched with other people who've lost a lot too. They're not going to pit you against diamond rank right off the bat, you have to work your way there. I highly recommend you give it a try. Worst case scenario, you end up not liking it, right?
