It's people taking game-dev courses. If the tutor grinds you on one type of game then all your calss are gonna come out with one type of game they can make solo.

scammers actively trying to pander to retarded zoom-zooms with the 'bro roguelikes are CRAZY HARD so you gotta restart each time but haha get this, you get META PROGRESSION so it gets EASIER as you play'

I get it. It's like taking Mario, putting in the concept of 'each time you die, you can use the coins to buy extra things like a higher jump, more fireballs per shot, running over gaps in the levels and more to make it so easy but it's SUPER hardcore we promise lolz'

Don't get me wrong, some RNG Progression games are kino as fuck like Binding of Isaac with mods (if you bught it please refund it, you got scammed) and some of them are reasonably less reliant on RNG like Dead Cells or Hades but ultimately if a game isn't a roguelike and calls itself one or worse, a roguelite, remember to pirate it even if you won't play it and seed the shit out of it

What bothers me the most is the "roguelite" aspect. I appreciate good level design, and roguelite is pure torture for me. For example, that game called 20XX, which is kind of a parody of Mega Man, would be infinitely better if the levels were carefully crafted instead of procedural garbage.

They always end up having Ballkicker 50 meme difficulty so the metaprogression is moot anyway.

There are countless indies out there which are not just roguelikes and metroids, but you refuse to acknowledge they exist and won't play them.

What else am I supposed to acknowledge? 8-bit/16-bit style platformers? Retro JRPGs? Super Meat Boy clones? A bunch of farm sim games? Indie devs lack any sort of original ideas and this has been more apparent in these past few years.

>want a classic Resident Evil with rougeish elements
>tank controls, puzzle solving, inventory management and prerendered backgrounds
>respawning enemies that infrequently drop items and ammo
>can aim for enemy body parts (legs, arms, torso and head. Behind shots are crit multipliers) by scrolling the mouse wheel when your character does the "ready weapon" stance, which will highlight body parts with a red outline
>some enemies will be armored on certain limbs that will require you to either shoot somewhere else or use a stronger gun (Grenade launcher with acid rounds will melt metal plating for example)
>camera with a mysterious other person trapped in the facility with you in a datacenter at the lowest level
>the implication of the whole game is that they're watching you the whole playthrough (Those odd fixed camera angles in the first Resident Evil).
>can find data sticks as you're exploring the facility
>the facility your trapped in has server rooms where you can upload the programs on these data sticks to give the person watching you "OE" (Observer Effect) abilities
>these abilities allow your character to do things like increase crit (head pop) chance on each shot for a short period, or respawn items in the room and other things
>uploading one of these OE programs is it's own minigame where you have to make storage room on the computer terminal by different means
>exploring file paths, deleting old, unnecessary files without bricking the computer by deleting something necessary (yes this would happen and it will fuck your playthrough over)

I love playing a game and not knowing what's around the next corner. Look at the great hand drawn animated art or pixel-shit that's trying to look cute and retro. Listen to the great music. You can feel the love.

-Making a game is hard for a small team.
-"""Roguelike/lite""" etc means you can pass off the challenge of level design to an algorithm that randomly makes levels for you.
-This also means you don't have to balance the gameplay/difficulty, or design any kind of upgrade progression, because the upgrades are doled out randomly to the player. The idea is for the player to just keep playing the game until they randomly unlock an item that allows them to win the game.

Roguelike/lites are a complete and utter cop-out.

Why don't they copy Isaac more? I'd love to have more Zelda1likes
