>someone says/types something that tells you they never actually played the game

Has this ever happened to you?

with this popularity of this meme, people are misusing it to mean "you got a misremembered a tiny detail ergo you have been lying the whole time" which is really autistic. like someone describe in detail why they disliked the third boss of a game, but they actually described to a T the attack patterns of the fourth boss! so they're a fake fan, how could they make that mistake unless they never played it??!

If somebody is telling me about video games I immediately think they're a gay loser nerd and I'm not listening either way.

War is le bad (here's some cool weapons, go kill foreign terrorists, bye) is not political.

I read threads about:
>Sonic
>Team Fortress 2
>Undertale/Deltarune
As you can imagine this means I quite literally constantly see it, although I suppose with the asterisk that it doesn't tell me that people haven't played TF2 full stop, but usually gives me an immediate ballpark of what year they started playing tf2 (generally post f2p)

Or that the preceding sentence is in both past and present tense.

No it’s when someone makes a mistake that would be impossible to make if you were telling the truth since the mistake deals with something so fundamental and ubiquitous
It would be like if you said you loved Jill’s route in resident evil 2

That's how the original scene unfolds though, the guy gives himself away by doing a hand gesture wrong.

Yes, but I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt so I usually assume they're mixing up one game with a different game in the same series or something

Yeah, some dude said some stuff about a game that was either outright wrong or a massive stretch of what was in the game, the kind of stuff you see in online seethe posts. I said to the guy how I didn't know he played it, as he didn't own it on Steam. He said he pirated it. It has Denuvo.

when someone says they just use a killbox for defense, it means they turned off sappers and drop pod invasions, ie. they didn't beat/play the game

I was that person once. My brother got Fallout 3 for the first time and I had yet to play it so I'd occasionally watch him but not really pay attention much. Saw him kill raiders and use vats occasionally but had no idea what any of that meant in gameplay terms.

About a week later I came up to some friends at school during break and they were talking about something and when I asked them about it they just said "oh, it's a game YOU haven't played, anon, it's called Fallout and it's....." and I got super defensive and started to claim I had started played Fallout 3 using incredibly inaccurate descriptions of gameplay that I could recall from watching my brother, including miming putting the pipboy in my face (by using both my hands like I was holding a tv screen instead of putting my wrist in my face) and how I was killing Bandits with a Bazooka.

They pretty much just had this face on as I was speaking and just said "yeah, you've never played Fallout" and continued talking about it with each other.

Felt like a retard when I finally got around to playing it a few days later and figured out all I said was wrong.

I was the one at fault once.
I was bitching about Death Stranding without having play it. I talked to one of my friends and said that the movement was utter trash, how you have to balance shit and stuff, it was really counter intuitive. He looked at me and said:
>You just have to press 2 buttons one after another, are you a casual brainlet anon?
I was cooked. I shout my mouth and stop with the acting. I laugh my ass out of the situation, but I must have reached critical levels of cringe that day.
I tried Death Stranding years later, but I wasn't that much off with my first fake impression.

When anons complain about Prey (2017) having one enemy type. This game having no new enemies in the last third is a problem but it absolutely doesn't only have one enemy type.

Unironically, when people say Omori is about depression.

I get the shitposting about it being another indie game about depressed characters, and sure, whatever. But so many people actually think it's about the main character, Sunny, being depressed. It's not, and if you played to the end or even somewhat considered what's happening you'd know that. Call me pretentious or dump on the game, totally fair. But it's not about depression, it's about guilt more than anything. Guilt, isolation, and even psychosis that comes from that.

When people say that it's a game about depression, it just tells me they either paid zero attention to what was going on, or outright didn't play it themselves.
