I'm playing the TTYD Tower of Trials mod. It's a total blast, I'm really enjoying myself so far. I'm about halfway through unlocking everything and I don't see myself getting bored anytime soon.

There's a mod for that?
How does it work?

It's a rougelike mod that turns Hooktail's Castle into a pseudo Pit of 100 Trials where each room you clear gives you an upgrade, and each floor has a shop room before the boss. There's tons of unlockables and achievements and shit to keep you busy, and there's three different tiers of difficulties along with tons of shit you can tweak in runs like team/enemy health and damage, action command difficulty, tons of other shit.

Seems like a good thing to look into after beating the game. Didn't even know there was something like that out there

ROMhacks of 5th and even 6th generation games are actually more common than you'd think. You should google " romhack" and see what comes up.

Wizardry Gaiden II. Thieves have the ability to sus out secret passages by walking past them, giving them another nice niche to play with. I wonder if Ninja's can do it too or not, I guess I'll find out. I've also noticed so far too (on the third floor) that combat is easier than the first Wizardry Gaiden, which was already generally easier than 1-3 or 5. I took a short break from it though to play Terminator Resistance, which is way better than I was expecting going into it.

....Why the fuck are you emulating a keysounded rhythm game? I've tried that before and the input lag is fucking horrendous. You gotta play like a full quarter note earlier than normal.

Just play data. Come on now, anon.

I get full 60fps with no stutter on pcsx2. Will fuck around with the beatoraja simulator later but dipping my toes into the series this way. I'm not noticing any latency issues

Anon... if you're trying to actually learn IIDX, then please please PLEASE play either beatoraja/lunatic rave or pirated data. I promise you that you are fucking up your potential skill level by learning in an emulator. Please, just download data or something. Here, I'll even help you.

Keysounded rhythm games aren't like your average rhythm game. Each note in the chart corresponds to an instrument in the song. I'm sure you've noticed this while playing IIDX. The INSTANT an input is registered, the audio of whatever instrument/stem that note is tied to plays.

Do you see where I'm going with this? If I hit the button, the inherent input lag introduced by the emulator causes that sound to be played 20-30ms AFTER I hit the button. That may not sound like a lot, but it's massive in a game like IIDX. It makes it impossible to accurately time.

I promise you will be better off if you download data, anon. Playing DDR on an emulator, I can understand. That works because it's not a keysounded game. Playing IIDX on an emulator.... that's just plain fucking retarded.

Prime 2. I was playing on keyboard with primehack but it was too easy with mouse aim and the sound was fucked up so I swapped to regular dolphin on gamepad.
Next up is probably a pikmin romhack.

Thats awesome, I'll have to try that sometime.

It could be true because my timings are off. I figured it was me being new to the game and the game having strict timings. I'm clearing 4s but I still get Ds and Cs when I clear
But it's only been a couple of days and I have FCs and As and Bs too

I am telling you right now, it's because you are playing on an emulator.

I implore you, once again, to please please PLEASE follow those links I gave you and set up data. You don't even need to go down the rabbit hole of updating to the current version, or installing an Omnimix mod or any of that shit. Just read the instructions.

Also this is because your brain is trying to adjust to the awful sync. This is what I mean by learning on an emulator being a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE idea. Switch as soon as you fucking can if you have any interest in becoming good at this game.

Hahahaha I was talking to you in a different thread.

Thinking back on it now, in my opinion, you're not really playing IIDX without a turn table. But then again, I've never played on anything but a IIDX controller. It probably works alright for learning finger placement for the notes, but if you switch over to an actual turntable controller, you're probably going to find scratch notes EXTREMELY difficult to re-learn.

Honestly as long as you're having fun, that's all that matters. It's once you get to the higher difficulties, like 11+, that the game stops being fun

I guess we'll see. When i watched vods of top iidx players they were using their pinkies and wrists to scratch. Looks p much the same. So far I found the jump from 3 to 4 much more manageable than from 2 to 3. I can read charts and move my hands fast but 7k lanes fuck with me. And they're introducing piano patterns where you play the bass on your left and the treble on your right. Idk what happens at high level from what I've seen looks like lots of chord spam

It'll come with time. IIDX is a game where you have to bash your fucking head into a brick wall for weeks and weeks until you start to understand basic concepts, only for new concepts to be introduced that leads to you bashing your fucking head into a brick wall for weeks and weeks until you start to understand more advanced concepts, only for new... you get the idea.

IIDX is an absolute monster of a game to learn. It takes serious dedication and tons of practice to get good at. Literally the only way to learn the game is to play it as often as possible. For reference, it took me almost two years of playing the game constantly to clear my first 12.

Here's a good resource that will help you learn the game.

Looks like someone was making a romhack for Ogre Battle 64 only to disappear like two years ago
Sad if only because the contents would be perfect for me, focusing on being more of a "hard mode" than a new thing.

I finally decided to play Pokemon Sword after thinking up a challenge where I have to draw a random type and can only use things of that type until I beat the next gym, where I pick another type and keep going like so until the end. I'm kind of impressed with the sheer amount of choices you have and with the QoL as well, what the fuck there's a move relearned in every pokecenter? I'm also shocked with the fact that the game is 6 years old already.
A Yuzu fork was crashing all the time so I moved to a Ryujinx fork and it just feels a lot better too.

Fist of the North Star: Kens Rage 2 on RPCS3 emulator. You can add reshade effects, savestates (like in mid-stage but buggy) and use cheat engine to slow down without hitching.
