The thing with Jirard is that while, technically, he didn't really seem to do anything illegal as far as accounting for the charity was concerned. However, letting all that money pile up (when he had explicitly said all the money would be donated etc) is kind of a move you can't recover from without an adequate explanation. But instead of doing that, he did an angry response video that just piled up on the arguments against him, rather than help his case, and at that point he completed his own career.

I think there was some evidence or rumors that he had people playing the games for himself, and he only narrated the journey. And that's why some of the stuff might have seemed only like a brief overview of the game, instead of explaining what was actually painful from a completionist standpoint.
